Meatloaf -- Universal City, CA -- August 12th, 2010

Hot Patootie (From Rocky Horror)
Break It
Bat Out Of Hell
Peace On Earth
Living On The OUtside
Los Angelloser (ok song)
You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth (Bad sing along led by background singers)
Song Of Madness
Some song he wrote as a 13 year old that was about 30 seconds long and the girls sang over him
Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through
I'd Do Anything For Love
Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad
Paradise By The Dashboard Light
Boneyard - Freebird ending - All Revved Up With No Place To Go Ending.

Decided at the last minute to go see Meatloaf at Gibson (Universal Amp) on Thursday night. Knowing that they were selling $10 tix I figured I could get something cheap. Got one outside for $2. It was orch level on the side. I moved back to loge in the center. I got in around 8:15 and Perla (his daughter who opened) was signing cd's at the merch booth. Probably around 35-40 people.

Before I go any further let me say that Bat Out Of Hell is one of my top 10 discs. I have listened to it on heavy rotation for 25 years. I have worked with Meatloaf and he is a great guy. Funny and personable. Really great guy.

He should stop right now. It was hands down one of the worst shows I have seen. Not because of the band. They have a guy in a white suit with feathered hair at piano, a Mark Goodman VJ look-a-like at drummer, and a guitarist who thinks he is Flea. Meatloaf simply cannot sing anymore. His voice is just shot. The sound was awful, and every show I have been to there before sounded great. He was low in the mix (for obvious reasons), the background singers sang way to much. In fact, they did the crowd sing along not Meat. He struggled with everything, including moving. He limped around stage. I know he is 62. He just needs to stop performing. The crowd was only into Bat songs. They were walking out half way through the show. It was maybe 1/2 full at best. He had a blow up bat out of hell tht was really cheesy looking. A blow up couple for Paradise By The Dashboard Light looked like cheap sex dolls. The only song I thought was good was Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through. Decent.
Really Pushing the new album, but only one song sound any good. His stories were somewhat interesting and entertaining. I became flat out embarrassed for him when he took out a cock shaped tee-shirt gun during Paradise and shot tee shits into the crowd. A new low. Thought I was at a ballgame.

I parked at the metro station so I did not have to pay for parking. So was the $2 worth it. Not sure. Not sure if it's a plus, but he did play 2 hours. Longer than most bands these days. At least it was done by 10:30. Never walked out on a show before but this was very very close.

Sorry the show sucked, but your review made me laugh out loud a couple of times. So, at least for me, your $2 was well spent!

$2 for a ticket? I know he's fallen off the radar since the mid 90s but damn I didn't know Meat had fallen that far. His new album sucks in fact he hasn't released anything good since Welcome To The Neighborhood which had some solid songs on it.

It looks like he's back to where he was in the mid 80s with nobody caring anymore. I haven't seen him live in 15 years but he always was a good entertainer and singer live. Maybe age has just caught up to him. It's hard to sing the style he did once you get into your 60s.

Why is he playing an amphitheater anyways? I saw him when he toured for Bat II and he played a 3,000 seat theater and it was the perfect setting for his show. That's what he should be doing now.

I was just listening to Meatloaf in the car. Love his stuff. I would love to see him live sometime.

this venue holds 5300 capacity.rush played here two nights ago,but only because their plans to play the forum on the same night fell through.so they booked this show at the last minute.i was lucky enough to be here two nights ago and it was awesome to say the least.probably the smallest venue rush has played in many years.i'm going to see them again in irvine tonight.

I keep seeing commercials about him and his daughter playing at a casino here pretty soon...
