Old School Death Metal.

The Prog/Power list made me remember that the "guide to old school death metal" list hasn't been made, and I didn't feel like waiting any longer, so I threw mine up. I tried to throw some less known one in here but kept the obvious, and even then I'm guessing most people here will disagree, but whatever. I tried to not put anything that came out after 1995, but it may have happened. I put one album by each band but there were a few I could not decide on, also it should be noted that some of these dabble in black metal, but are overwhelmingly death so I threw them on here anyway.

Top 24 (in no order):
Autopsy- Mental Funeral, Severed Survival
Bolt Thrower- Realms of Chaos
Incantation- Onward to Golgotha
Sadistik Exekution- We Are Death...Fukk You!
Cancer- To the Gory End, Death Shall Rise
Cannibal Corpse- Eaten Back to Life
Nocturnus- The Key
Seance- Fornever Laid to Rest
Carcass- Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious *
Carnage- Dark Recollections
Asphyx- The Last One on Earth
Dark Millenium- Ashore the Celestial Burning
Entombed- Clandestine, Left Hand Path
Bestial Warlust- Vengeance War Till Death, Blood & Valour
Gladiator- Designation
Killing Addiction- Omega Factor
Massacre- From Beyond
Death- Screaming Bloody Gore
Impetigo- Horror of the Zombies
Master- Master
Blasphemy- Fallen Angel of Doom
Cianide- A Decent Into Hell
Morbid Angel- Altars of Madness
Necrophagia- Season of the Dead

*not my favorite Carcass album, but the best death metal one

and then 5 old school death/thrash albums that are also essential in my opinion, but lean more towards the thrash spectrum:

Demolition Hammer- Epidemic of Violence
Megaslaughter- Calls from Beyond (kinda more death-y)
Energetic Krusher- Path to Oblivion
Blood Feast- Kill for Pleasure
Assorted Heap- The Experience of Horror

Obituary-Eh, I prefer these.
Suffocation- Peaked at Human Waste, these are full lengths. Effigy would be a candidate I suppose.

I fully enjoy Breeding the Spawn and Pierced too, but Human Waste is significantly better than all their other material. Way heavier & raw-er.

Did you still want me to finish mine? I'm still adding albums to it... and changing around the top 100.

So you're just talking production values more. Most of the songs on the EP were re-recorded in the next couple years, and Catatonia was on Despise the Sun.

But it's your list, and these are just my opinions

I'm going to try to have it done by the end of the weekend then, or Monday at the latest. I just don't have too much time to work on it during the week, so I've been putting it off.
