I'm not talking about Realms of Chaos, later Bolt Thrower is super melodic, and so is Dismember. Melodic + death metal to me equals melo-death, after wikipediaing melodeath all the bands are shitty and what I was under the impression was metalcore or some other lame genre, so I guess I am wrong.

I don't see how country of origin or tempo have any reflection on the level of melody in death metal. Especially country of origin. There are some fantastic old school death metal bands from Sweden and some absolutely terrible new ones who don't sound anything like the old.

Swedish death= Sunlight studios sound (Entombed, Dismember, Grave, etc.)
I'm not saying that Swedish death metal can't have melody, but it wouldn't be called melodic death if it has that Sunlight sound.

I guess I did. They are very melodic in parts, right? And was a kick-ass band (newer stuff is just so-so)

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN NECROED

Okay, to be honest, this list is basically death metal bands that have the slightest trace of deathcore. I guess that qualifies them as deathcore so you can call them "good" deathcore, but other than Despised Icon, I don't really know how deathcore-y they are. Granted, I have yet to check out a couple lower down on the list, so take that with a grain of salt.

If I were to recommend "good deathcore", versus "death metal with core-ish elements", my list would look a little different. All good bands that you mentioned, though, especially the Red Chord.

I don't know if you've got to The Red Shore song yet, but that album is incredible.

EDIT: I guess the video was removed, along with a bunch of others... New link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuiXgK_dGTM

You're right, most of these bands aren't deathcore. But there are some good bands discussed. BUT, Despised Icon is a true deathcore great. IMO the best pure deathcore band ever.

At original post.

Despised icon is probably the worst out there in my mind I can not stand them and had trouble listening to them live. I wanted to leave the venue. I agree with all shall perish awaken the dreamers though. I also did not like skepsis by through the eyes of the dead the album before it was so much better. I love the red chord and they are very fun live.

I didn't read through the thread to see everyones opinion because frankly I'm feeling lazy but winds of plague should be added in there some where.
