My German friend here - who sometimes refers to himself as simply "The Hessian", would like to have a words with you.

No, but seriously - one could almost pick any other song from BBW and make the same joke / comment. High on Fire's catalog of music is so good, that a top ten songs list almost seems like a cruel joke on the list-maker. (Incidentally, the same could be said about this next band...)

EDIT: Here's my HoF list from about a year ago:

High on Fire
Rumors of War
Devilution
Cometh Down Hessian
Turk
Blessed Black Wings
The Face of Oblivion
Frost Hammer
Hung, Drawn & Quartered
Snakes for the Divine
Blood from Zion

Honorable Mentions: Fury Whip; Fire, Flood & Plague; Waste of Tiamat; Eyes & Teeth; Speedwolf; Baghdad

Your #1 is a rather curious choice. While I love that song and every other on Panopticon, I don't know a single Isis fan (including yours truly) who would rank that as their best song of all time. Interesting. The real puzzler on your list is #5, though. Are you serious about that one? It's an interlude track that's less than two minutes, and is basically just some keyboard & guitar feedback and noise. It serves its purpose very well as being the calm in the center of the storm that is the album, but if I have all my Isis tracks on shuffle on my mp3 player and this track comes up, I'm probably hitting the skip button. Just sayin'.

EDIT: Here's my Isis list from about a year ago:

Isis
The Beginning and the End
Celestial (The Tower)
Threshold of Transformation
Dulcinea
In Fiction
Carry
Ghost Key
Hym
Hall of the Dead
Backlit

Honorable Mentions: Not in Rivers, But in Drops; Glisten; Garden of Light; So Did We; False Light

I cannot describe my love for Altered Course enough haha. I saw a beautifully done video for it using Blue Planet footage, and now whenever I hear it, I think of nature and such. I've listened to it from standing on the red rock mountains of Sedona, AZ and on the shores of New Jersey. I can't even begin to tell you how relaxing that song is to me lol.

Wavering Radiant is a very difficult one to describe. I just found that it relaxes me very much as well. I mean, not that I don't absolutely LOVE the post-metal vocals on their other songs, but something about a brief instrumental track like this pleases me.

Not the biggest fan of these guys but they're playing a free concert so I've been listening to my itunes playlist and came up with this list. Diablo might be #1 by the time of the show. That song finally clicked with me.

Chevelle

1) The Clincher
2) Still Running
3) Comfortable Liar
4) An Evening with El Diablo
5) Antisaint
6) Sleep Apnea
7) Family System
8) I Get It
9) Forfeit
10 Send The Pain Below

HM: The Red, Jars, Get Some, Vitamin R, Straight Jacket Fashion & Sleep Walking Elite

I need to listen to Death is The Communion one or two more times before posting my updated top 10, but I'm 90% sure that Rumors of War, Fury Whip and the title track are all contenders for the top 10.
