Little depressing for those in bands but pretty interesting. Didn't know if anyone else saw this or not.

I'm not even in a band, and I found that depressing to read.

11/21 - King Crimson
2/27 - Sacrifice/Macabre
3/31-4/1 - David Gilmour

Actually surprised signed artists make $1.20 per physical copy sold. I thought it would be much lower than that. Unless that average royalty deal example is outdated from when selling 500,000 albums seemed like a given for any moderately successful band.

10/04 - The Black Dahlia Murder
11/12 - Kataklysm

So then I should just download Spectrum of Death and give Jay Visser $20 if I ever see him?
You know its true, bunny rabbits we have got lovely little fluffy bottoms. We do. That's why people often mistake us for Danny Devito.

Obviously depends from deal to deal, label to label, but overall I think it has a rough idea of whats going on.

I wrote an article on a different forum a while ago about something similar to this. I am in 3 bands, one is completely independent, one is signed to a small indy label, and another is signed to a more well known label with contract and everything. All three really have their own positives and negatives, but honestly, when it comes down to it in the end, the money usually ends up just going back into the band. Obviously my style of music I play isn't the kind that one can make a living off of, and as awesome as it would be to make a living off of doing something I truely love, I would have to play some Hot Topic/Radio Rock to do it and be comfortable.

Anyway, in the end it sholdn't be about the money and just about getting your name out and having fun, but a little $$$ incentive never hurts

One thing that should really open up peoples eyes to this post is comparing it to a band like Vreid. Fairly well known Black 'n Roll band, tours a bit, made a great legacy with Windir... yet they all work normal jobs. Steingrimm, their drummer, couldn't make it on their last US tour because he couldn't get time off from work to be gone for such a long time.
