Ah. Well, lyrical content I can deal with if the music has the muscle to back it up. I have no problem with Amon Amarth, for example, because strip away the Viking lyrics and it still sounds like melodic death metal with balls.

Now, if they used "Viking instruments" like so many of their Scandinavian brethren, I'd lose all patience.

Man - ya'll are grumpy today. Funny quirky stuff is funny and quirky. I'm surprised that bands that are relatively harmless get as many complaints from ya'll as they do.

They're... average.

And very often it's done to cover up a lack of either creativity or talent. I think people take particular offence when there's no reason to be "fun and quirky" and it's just done to try and sell on novelty value alone.

Precisely. See Amon Amarth. Kinda shticky, very good.

call gimmick bands lame or whatever you want, but they always put on a really fun show. Austrian Death Machine and Alestorm are a lot of fun live, i heard Swashbuckle was pretty fun live as well. it's fun to listen to bands every now and then knowing you're not supposed to take them seriously.

I will say Austrian Death Machine is hillarious. I saw them live and they were a lot of fun. I really don't have an issue with gimmick bands but Swashbuckle's gimmick is just lame.

One of my most disappointing concert experiences ever, because I actually expected to enjoy them in a really tongue-in-cheek kind of way, but they were just dreadful.
