On the subject of ghostly whiteness: I'm going to Florida in August to debut my (what will hopefully by then be a) beachbody, and I need some advice on tanning. Does the store bought fake tan stuff look natural enough? I plan on being outside a lot this summer, but I tend to burn easily and don't want to risk "sun tanning". Any advice?
Sincerely, Not-Alright-With-White |

You make me laugh, Cameron. But seriously, I don't know if I'd go with anything from a bottle or can (or spray jet). I've just heard too many horror stories about that. In truth, though, I really do believe in going to the tanning booth (or bed, whatever you prefer) for a few weeks before going on vacation during the winter. I've read many places that it helps your skin to react better to the sun when you get to the sunny place(s) you're going if you have somewhat of a base tan going (even if that base tan has to come from fluorescent lamps). I used to be a lifeguard for several years (best fucking job on the planet, by the way ), and I would say I do know a thing or two about tanning, sun and skin. Plus, I have a skin condition that makes be burn pretty easily, so there's that, too. Plus, I'm a boat owner, too - there's no more intense sun than on the water.Even though there's a lot of negative press about tanning under UV lamps - and some of it is deserved, by the way (but mostly in the context of negligence, addiction or abuse), it can be very safe if proper precautions are followed. Don't tan longer than they recommend at the tanning place. Always use sunscreen and moisturizer. Some of the products they sell to "accelerate" tanning may work, but they're expensive. I wouldn't bother. You're not there to look like Robert Downey in "Tropic Thunder" - you're there for a base tan so you don't fry when you get into the really intense sun. Don't do it for vanity - do it for health and safety reasons - and you should be fine. That's my advice.

![]() Cam, don't use the fake tan stuff you won't turn bronze you'll turn orange and look like a reject from the cast of Jersey Shore. Tanning beds like Nat said are fine just use in moderation and don't go over the time limit. |

I hate myself for taking mirror shots, but I was persuaded into taking this, and I enjoy the cat in the background:

Anyone who is paying for a tan is so stupidly image conscious I don't have any interest in associating with them anymore.

Except gay marriage. Yeah, I'm probably as apathetic to gay marriage as I am tanning.
