Cathedral -- London, England -- April 29th, 2010
The Guessing Game Tour
Venue: ULU The Gates of Slumber (20:00-20:20) All three bands arrived late for some reason from the previous night's show. Gates of Slumber started 15 minutes late and only had time to play 5 minutes over. No idea what they played because the sound was awful. Just know they finished with Blood And Thunder. Church of Misery (20:35-21:05) Managed to only start 5 minutes late and were therefore afforded their full set length. Again, terrible sound so no idea what they played, but much better performance than The Gates of Slumber. Cathedral (21:40-23:00) Funeral of Dreams Painting In The Dark Ride North Berwick Witch Trials The Carnival Bizarre Death of An Anarchist Cats, Incense, Candles & Wine Serpent's Eve The Casket Chasers --------------------- Corpsecycle Hopkins (Witchfinder General) Terrible sound for Cathedral too. No vocals at all down the front, just way too much guitar. At the back, too much bass, not enough guitar, but could at least make the vocals out. Great show by Cathedral, but I think they'll be better with a decent sound-man at the Sweden Rock Festival in June. I would question their song selection too. Out of 11 songs, 6 were off the new album, which is just over a week old. And on top of that, picked easily the worst song off the album (Cats, Incense, Candles & Wine) and left out La Noche del Buque Maldito, which is one of the best. I'm fortunate that I've had the album a lot longer and am familiar with the songs, but most people there haven't even heard it yet and I think will have come away disappointed that there weren't more old songs. At least they only played a couple of really obvious ones and pulled out a couple of rarities. Serpent's Eve, for instance, hasn't been in the set for 18 years.

I can fill in some blanks for the first two bands Andy.
I heard about the delay before hand (previous night was in Belfast so it was quite a drive) but still managed to miss the start of The Gates Of Slumber but apparently they only played three songs. We came in during second which was Beneath The Eyes Of Mars... The Gates Of Slumber set list: ? Beneath The Eyes Of Mars Blood & Thunder I loved Church Of Misery, sound was fine where I was stood. Could have been another song I missed but it was all merged into one... Church Of Misery set list: El Padrino Shotgun Boogie Killfornia I, Motherf**ker We seem to be pretty much in agreement on Cathedral.
