You've never heard of Portal before?

Really cool/fucked up death metal. Almost as if "Blessed Are The Sick"-era Morbid Angel actually performed from Hell.

I've heard of them - but I wasn't aware of their stage image. That is rather...different.

It's pretty fucking lo-fi, too. Not saying that's bad, but Morbid Angel wasn't the first comparison that came to mind. As far as pace goes, maybe I could see the comparison...

As far as music goes, I don't even know where I'd make a comparison. If later-Gorguts was in an H.R. Geiger painting?

Well anyway, what's really interesting is that they're playing with Bloody Panda at the gig that's in Cleveland, and they also wear executioners' masks when they play. Also, Bloody Panda is very noisy and discordant, like these guys, although I'd classify BP more as drone than death metal, which is clearly Portal's main bent.

Interestingly enough, the venue is within walking distance from where my brother lives. I'm not sure if he'd be down for this show or not. If he asked me about it, I would kinda shrug, since I saw Bloody Panda last year opening for Giant Squid and wasn't very impressed.

I say go. Portal is from Australia and as far as know, it's their first tour outside of Aussieville.

I will be home by the time this hits Cleveland, but I'm embarrassingly unfamiliar with the bands, even though they're all on Profound Lore which I pimp to the max.

I'd have to say there will be better reasons to come to Cleveland than this show during that time frame (for example, 5/24 Mono / Twilight Sad at Grog Shop, or 5/27 Hypocrisy / Hate / Blackguard / Swashbuckle at Peabody's), but if this gig works really well with your schedule or there is some other compelling reason to do it, it might be worth thinking about. It is on a Sunday night...for what that's worth.
