Tons of old school death metal is littered with breakdowns, and it sounds just great. It's the misuse of breakdowns mixed with the horrendous vocals and unoriginality that makes deathcore suck.

Suffocation, Jungle Rot, etc.

Dunno if you could really call them "breakdowns", but if they could be considered breakdowns, then i would call them an example of a good breakdown.

The breakdown in Endless by Unearth might be my favorite ever. In this case it makes a solid song a great song.

Ohhh sweet jesus, yes! That first breakdown is awesome.

Also, if anyone listens to Darkane around here, the breakdown at the end of Wrath Connection is fucking amazing. And when I saw them live they ended their set with that breakdown, and it is possibly the best live show closer I have ever seen live. Very powerful and gets me wanting to jump around and headbang every time.

It's an interesting breakdown in that it has some melodic stuff going on from one of the guitar players while the primary breakdown is being played by another person.

I still like the breakdown at the end of "This Glorious Nightmare" just a little bit more. It makes me want to tear shit up.


EDIT: The one in the middle of "This Time Was Mine" is pretty fucking badass as well.
