Faster ain't better. In all seriousness, Brann is one of my favorite drummers of all time, and probably my favorite fill-writer.

Oh trust me I know for a fact faster isn't better. I've been playin the drums for awhile and the stuff Gene did on Symbolic and Individual Thought Patterns is just incredible, it's more complicated and confusing than the stuff on Crack the Skye or Leviathan I think.

Fuck you. Despite his terrible taste in bands nowadays (Opeth being one of them ), Gene > Brann.

Conveniently left out by far his best drumming album, eh?

I'm not knocking Gene Hoglan, he just isn't one of my favorites.

Those are the only two Mastodon albums I own, I'm guessing he was best on Remission you're saying?

Blood Mountain! He talked up his Phil Collins (70s Genesis drumming...not to say "In the Air Tonight" isn't awesome ) influence leading up to its release, and he definitely surpassed his idol. Just about every song has an extremely memorable drum part.

Oh yeah forgot about Blood Mountain lol. I've heard that one, but I wasn't ridiculously impressed with the drumming. Gene still has my back as far as I'm concerned. The stuff he did on the new FF wasn't that spectacular, but like I said the stuff Gene did with Death was awesome. And alot of the albums he played on with SYL had some crazy stuff goin on.

I will agree that Brann is an awesome drummer though, but if I had to pick one over the other is would be Gene.

Chris Adler is a great drummer too. (Don't even start )
