You shouldn't be that disappointed in Lacuna Coil. They've been steadily going downhill musically since Comalies. Don't get me wrong, Comalies is a solid album but nothing like their EP and the first two records. Comalies and Karmacode should've tipped you off that they were just looking to become more mainstream and didn't care much about how good they used to be.

I will admit that Shallow Life does have some good tracks but it's far cry from what they used to be. I for one am not surprised they went the more mainstream sounding route though considering how marketable Cristina is. But it still hasen't got them any gold or platinum albums in the USA so I don't think the change musically has really helped them commercially like they wanted it to over the last 3 albums.

Seriously? That album was pure shit. Raditude, however, was even worse. By far the worst album I heard this year.

I agree. The early stuff is much better than the rest. Comalies is a good disc, but in a different way. Karmacode was a 3/5 album. Shallow Life is 2/5. Classic case of a band finding the formula to make them popular (Comalies) and repeating it.

I don't think they did keep the formula that made them popular with Comalies at all. I will admit that the stuff off Karmacode rocks very hard live but on disc it's missing that punch it has live. Karmacode has always left me scratching my head as to what they were trying to accomplish. The guitar riffs sounded like Korn and Slipknot and it really showed they would do anything to become famous in North America. Shallow Life is further proof of that and also proof that the band really doesn't "get it" at all when it comes to trying to sell records. You can't alter your sound that much over the course of 3 albums and expect all the fans you gained here with Comalies to stay with you.

Last I read (it was awhile ago) Comalies has sold somewhere between 250,000-300,000 copies in the US. Can you imagine how successful they could've been over here if the came out with an album that was simular to that instead of whatever the fuck they were trying to do with Karmacode?

It's in that region, yes. With Comalies they surpassed Stuck Mojo as Century Media's biggest selling band of all time (travesty, right there).

But I do think they've gone for more of the same with Shallow Life and Karmacode. More so from Karmacode to Shallow Life (the lead singles off both albums were basically carbon copies) than from Comalies to Karmacode, but it's all the same stuff more or less. Apart from the Eastern styles on a couple of tracks, there was barely anything on Karmacode that I didn't feel like I'd heard before, and even less on Shallow Life.

I actually asked them point blank "what's with the KoRn riffs" and they (Cristina and Andrea) openly admitted KoRn are a big influence and their's was a sound they wanted to incorporate.

That's awesome to hear. Torche has a killer groove. Every release they put out has more and more groove.

I do remember hearing that they had more of a Black Metal touch in their first couple albums while the newer releases has more Thrash. My oldest Susperia album is Umlimited. I've yet to find Vindication or Predominance in stores, I'll have to check them out at some point.

I'd give anything to see Long Distance Calling tour the US. Maybe 2010/2011 it will happen?

I can't help it man. I love hearing John Paul Jones kicking ass again. I like Josh Homme and becoming less and less of a fan of Dave Grohl, but JPJ is back in form.

No, you're right. When I first heard Lacuna coil my initial thought was "Alright, this is the band that will make people forget about Evenessence" (Or however it's spelled) Then after I listened to Karmacode I realized "These guys are turning into Evenessence". I guess I was just hoping that they would bring back what set them apart from the rest...doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon.

I've been a Weezer fan ever since I discovered The Blue Album. The Blue Album, and Pinkerton are their best. Green Album and Maladroit were ok. Make Believe is a pile of Dog Shit. The Red Album gave me hope that they were still capable of writing good music. Raditude.....It made me sick to listen to.

That is why it's my 2nd worst album I listened to...but nothing beats Scream for worst of 2009.
