And on this subject, have you tried the new ones from Red Circuit, Nostradameus, Sacred Steel, Andromeda, Macbeth, Narnia, Winterborn, Illusion Suite, Leverage, Inmoria, Grimmstine, Nightmare, At Vance (surely you did? Wasn't great, was it?), Iron Fire, Ronny Munroe, Infinity Overture, Lions Share, Celesty, Leprous, Mean Streak, Prymary, Status Minor, Rebellion, Shadow's Mignon or Metalium?

Let me know what you think. I enjoyed most of those.

I bolded all the ones I've heard, underlined the ones I intend to hear. If I missed anything you really, truly think I should hear, speak up. Though, to be honest, I already have heard and don't particularly like the bands Iron Fire, Nostradameus, and Ronny Munroe's voice is really grating to my ears for some reason.

I liked it, but a lot of people were talking like this was the best year ever. A bunch of people were drooling over everything that came out this year and I for one was like meh to many of the ones people were going ga ga over.

Iron Fire are very "meh", I'm with you there. I think you've picked out the best ones.

I thought the Inmoria disc was superb. Very heavy. If you want some really good prog, try the Leprous one. Very impressed with them.

Sacred Steel is very... watered down Jag Panzer, I suppose. Too formulaic for me. Leverage I haven't actually listened to yet. It's in the pile waiting its turn. But they're your kind of band, I believe.

Have you listened to Andromeda before? They're a good band (although deadly boring live), and this is probably their best effort.

Just thought of another one: Avian.

Frankly, in the age of the internet, MySpace and Spotify in particular, listen to all of them! What have you got to lose?

Haha I don't have time. I'm not nearly as hardcore of a music fan as most people here so I don't really go out of my way to hear a lot of albums (even if I hear good things about them). Hell, one of my former favorite bands (Candlemass) put out an album this year and I've yet to bother to spin it even though I've had it downloaded since the summer. I just tend to stick with all my old albums that I enjoy and most of the new albums I've bought this year has been old "classic" stuff.
