Resident Evil 5 is basically the opposite of this. Except for the monster-infested part because there are a lot of enemies.
Idk, I'm playing RE5 right now and I'm really digging it. But then again, I'm a newcomer to the series, with only playing 4 previously. I'm probably gonna download RE2 from the Playstation Store so I could experience one of the older ones. I would play the RE1 remake, but I unfortunately don't have a GC, and I don't know if I want to spend $10 on the first one with it's terrible dialouge ("That was too close. You were almost a jibble sandwich.").

I was all over NBA and NHL games too. I think the first NHL one I got was '97... and NBA... '98 I think.

But yeah, couldn't care less about the NFL ones.

Of the old ones, RE3 is the hardest, RE2 is the easiest, and RE1 is the best :p

Right, theres so much blasphemy here its actually making me feel naucious, although that could be the left overs from todays dinner I just ate.

Barely anything pre 1999? COME ON!!!!

No Final Fantasies??? COME ON!!!!

Top 5, the kings of gaming:

1. Tied between Sonic 1 and 2 and Super Mario Bros on the Nes, Perfect platforming games, no bullshit, its you, the enemies in your way, and your skill at getting from a to b.

2. FF7/9 are two of the best RPG's EVER, the story, the gameplay, the graphics, the characters, awe-inspiring. I can forgive casual gamers not playing these as if you are on a team/have a full time job, you won't by the time you've reached disc two of these things, as you've just spent the last three days straight getting there.

3. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past/Ocarina of Time I would argue are the two greatest adventure games ever, at least two of the top ten. they have the addictiveness of FF, but with a far more pick up and play-esque feel to them.

4. Pac-Man/Tetris, jus downright addictive and classic, they own you.

5. Halo 3, jus for the laughs me and my mates got out of it and the previous halos, some fantastic memories.

The raminder of the top ten, IMO:

Brutal Legend
Gears of War
Oblivion
Jak and Dater
ramaining Final Fantasies.

Of the year:

Arkham Asylum
Brutal Legend
Resi 5 (Great fun since I had my best mate doing it with me)

And the rest were good but not outstanding to me :P
