31.Dream Theater-Black Clouds and Silver Linings

Dream Theater was coming off their weakest effort with 2007's Systematic Chaos. Thankfully they are back to form with the great Black Clouds And Silver Linings. This album is easily the best they have done since the 90's. The melodies are awesome and with the exception of The Count Of Tuscany which kinds of drags this the epic songs are awesome.

Standout Tracks
1.A Nightmare To Remember
2.The Shattered Fortress
3.A Rite of Passage

30. Devildriver-Pray For Villans

Devildriver hasn't let me down yet. This record took more time to grow on me than past release of theirs but that is fine. Devildriver took some risks on this record mainly with the vocals and a couple of slower tempo tracks and i have to say it payed off for the most part. Also they showcased some of their melodic death metal influnces on this record which is always good to see. They are one of the best groove metal bands around and it will proably stay that way for a long time.

Standout Tracks
1.Forgiveness Is A Six Gun
2.I've Been Sober
3.Another Night In London

29. Gaza-He Is Never Coming Back

This band is fantastic. They make some of the most complex/awesome hardcore i have heard in a long time. After their last album I Dont Care Where I Go When I die which was also excellent they kind of disappeared for a while. This album shows Gaza has come thundering back with a great album and they have evolved as a band. A truly great that is really worth your time.

Standout Tracks
1.The Kicking Legs
2.Tombless
3.Windowless House

28. Muse-The Resistence

After their last album the masterpiece known as Black Holes and Revelations Muse had some big shoes to fill. They did a damn good job on this one but clearly it is not as good as Black Holes. The trademark Muse sound is on here. Epic rhythm sections, stirring vocals and really complex alt-rock. Muse is the best mainstream alt-rock band by far and if they continue like this no one will dethrone them for a long time

Standout Tracks
1.Untied States Of Eurasia
2.Uprising
3.Unguding Light

27.Winds Of Plague-The Great Stone War

Winds Of Plague is by far the best deathcore band around. I find them to be unique and they are very experimental in their music. The Great Stone War is the finest deathcore achievement ever. It's pretty much the "Master Of Puppets" or the "Master Of Reality of this genre (I know this claim to a lot of metalheads is like winning a dyslexic spelling bee). This a really symphonic, great record that is coming from one of the handful of good deathcore bands. I tip my hat to Winds Of Plague for daring to be original in a genre that is mainly full of boring, average bands.

Standout Tracks
1.Creed Of Tyrants
2.Soliders Of Doomsday
3.Our Requiem

26.Darkest Hour-The Eternal Return

Darkest Hour is in the prime of their career right now. They pretty much have their style of a music down to a science now and they have really hit their stride at the point in time in their career. This album has a collection of awesome riffs, melodic solos and just plain kick-ass songs. A very underated band that deserves more attention.

Standout Tracks
1.The Tides
2.Blessed Infection
3.Into The Grey

25.Kylesa-Static Tensions

2009 has been a great for metal as a whole but Sludge Metal is gaving an outstanding year. I can thank me seeing Kylesa open for Mastodon for me getting into them. The day after the Mastodon show and I went downloaded this album and it is a stellar release. One of the main reasons this band is so great is the songwriting and their creative use of two drummers. It for sure diversifies them from thee rest of the Sludge pack. Really interesting album and heavy as shit.

Standout Tracks
1.Scapegoat
2.Running Red
3.Said and Done

24.Ensiferum-From Afar

If i were to sum this album in one word that word would be EPIC. These folky viking bastards make of the most unique, catchy and epic metal around. I love the death metal influnces they have as well. Other Folk Metal bands should take notes because Enisferum has mastered the craft.

Standout Tracks
1.By The Dividing Stream
2.Heathen Throne
3.Smoking Ruins

23.Muncipial Waste-Massive Agressive

Ah the joys Of Muncipial Waste. This was defintley of one of my most anticipated albums of the year. This record has a more-pissed off approach then 2007's The Art Of Partying. I like the approach The Waste took on this one. Did i find to be as good as The Art Of Partying hell no but there is still the awesome, quick, furious rampage of Muncipal Waste and their blend of punk and thrash is fucking awesome and they remain one of my favorite bands.

Standout Tracks
1.Wolves Of Chernobyl
2.Mech-Cannibal
3.Acid Sentence

22.Vader-Necropolis

Polish deathlords Vader never fail to impress. Necropolis is another ferocious ass-kicker of an album that grabs you by the throat and never lets go. Even well into their 2nd decade Vader continues to be at the peak of the death metal heap. Pretty much the best thing to ever come from Poland.

Standout Tracks
1.Dark Heart
2.Rise Of The Undead
3.We Are The Horde

21.Rammstien-Liebe Fiest Aur Alle Da

Bottom Line:Best Rammstien album since Mutter.

Rammstien is back with a fury. Making some of the most memorable music they have made in years. Now I just need a US tour in 2010 and i will the happiest kid in the world.

Standout Tracks
1.Waidmanns Hail
2.B********
3.Ich tur dir weh

20.Converge-Axe To Fall

Converge has been inovating hardcore for a very long time. Jane Doe is considered to be one of the genre's finest achievements and the album that Converge will always be remembered by. Axe To Fall is arguabley the best thing they have done since. A balls to the wall adrenaline rush of an album. Converge experiments so much on this album with different tempos and vocal approaches. It's great to see yet another evolution from these guys. This album will defintley split metal fans as does just about all of Converge's material. Personally I think this is a fantastic record and one of 09's finest.

Standout Tracks
1.Dark Horse
2.Cruel Bloom
3.Worms Will Feed/Rats Will Feast

I don't think there are really 24 albums better than Static Tensions this year.

In most years there absolutely wouldn't be but this year was something special. I do forsee two of the picks coming up not being popular with pretty much everybody on here but whatever.

19.Killswitch Engage-Killswitch Engage

Plain and simple I love Killswitch Engage that is proably why this album is so high. I thought this album was pretty great its proably their weakest album yet but I still loved it. Howard Jones's vocal performance is dazziling on this album and it makes some songs that would be just ok elevate to great.

Standout Tracks
1.Never Again
2.Reckoning
3.The Forgotten

18.Napalm Death-Time Waits For No Slave

Grindcore legends Napalm Death's new one Time Waits For No Slave was the 1st record I heard all year. Let's just say it was a great omen for what this year would be. Most bands when they are Napalm Death's tend to water down their music and kind of half ass it. Napalm Death doesn't do that in the slightest they make one of their finest records they have ever made. An absolute face-melter of a record.

Standout Tracks
1.Life And Limb
2.Larceny Of The Heart
3.Downbeat Clique

17.Job For A Cowboy-Ruination

I remember not long after i joined this site in April i didn't make too many friends on here with my high praise of this record. Personally I thought before this record came out Job For A Cowboy was a very average band that didn't really have any special about them. That all changed with Ruination. This album is absolutely insane. The biggest improvement is the guitar work. New guitarist Al Glassman can actually play! Johnny Davy has also stepped his vocals up a lot. The song structures are more complex and everything about this band as improved drasticly. This is hands down the biggest surprise of the year and I can now say i am fan of a Job For A Cowboy.

Standout Tracks
1.Unfurling A Darkened Gospel
2.March To Global Enslavement
3.Summon The Hounds
