Jukebox:Metal Top 20 of 2009
The last couple of years I did a top 10 of metal and a top 10 of rock. This time it's a top 20 of both because the really good metal outweighed the really good rock.
Ripper haters and Baroness lovers bitch away: http://www.jukeboxmetal.com/2010/edi...wenty-of-2009/

Well, I can honestly say I didn't hear that Ripper album because I heard such horrible things about it and because Beyond Fear is such an abortion, so I'll reserve my judgment but assume that I disagree. And for all that doom metal on there, I'm shocked - shocked - that the new My Dying Bride didn't make your list. For shame, sir.

I liked it. A lot. But it was just more of the same where they're concerned, whereas things like the new Katatonia were a total advancement.
They probably do deserve a spot on the honourable mentions list, though. There are also a few things I haven't actually heard yet, which might explain their absence.

Yep. I didn't enjoyed a CD more last year than Play My Game. Different, great playing/players, varied, one of Ripper's best vocal performances so far. Loved it.
And live he was outstanding.

WOW. It's hard to take anything you say seriously after seeing that list. Just being straight up.

Quote:
These were chosen from nearly 200 albums I listened to this year (and reviewed about 150 of them), and believe or not, there were better ones than Mastodon, Megadeth, H&H, Dream Theater, AIC, Slayer and all the other obvious choices.

His next collaboration will be out in a few weeks. Charred Walls of The Damned, with Richard Christy and Steve DiGeorgio.

I think the one that had me on the floor was Europe. You are talking about the one hit wonder with the worst use of keyboards in the history of modern music right?
Who knew these clowns were still around, let alone making music anyone under the age of 60 would want to hear? Maybe they're big across the pond but in America they are the punchline of jokes and only played by band geeks at basketball games. You mention Alice in Chains and I can't see how anyone couldn't get the soul and emotion on that cd. Well, maybe I can because it took me 10 listens but once I got it I was enthralled. I only heard about 1/3rd of tte cd's you listed but some never even got a 2nd listen due to horrific lyrics or just being boring and plodding. Is there anything on that list that is fast or has some balls and you would recommend to a Slayer fan?
