Clutch -- Millvale, PA -- September 9th, 2009
Venue: Mr. Smalls theater
I didn't watch any of the opening bands. I got there right at the end of Wino's set, had two beers, and 11 bucks later Clutch came on. Here's the set: intro jam Big News I/II Cypress Grove (Notes From The Trial Of) La Curandera Struck Down 50,000 Unstoppable Watts Abraham Lincoln The Soapmakers Immortal Electric Worry One Eyed Dollar Minotaur The Amazing Kreskin The Yeti The Devil And Me The Regulator The Incomparable Mr. Flannery Burning Beard -----ENCORE------ Texan Book Of The Dead The Mob Goes Wild Highlights of the show were Mr. Flannery, La Curandera, and Abe Lincoln. Neil's voice was amazing and the band was spot on. Met Neil after the show and he's a cool dude. I will definitely see clutch again whenever I can. -Peace Out |

Seeing them sunday night and I cannot wait! One of the best live bands I've seen and it's been a while since they've been back.

Man I love Clutch but I need WAY more old shit than that. Their 1st 2 cd's are still their best cd's by a mile to me. Someday I'll get Binge and Purge again...

I respectfully disagree. This is a damn good set. The only thing missing is Animal Farm, Spacegrass or maybe A Shogun Named Marcus (which they don't play that often, but I was lucky enough to hear it last December at their show in Columbus).
Songs from the new album (which is very good, BTW): Struck Down 50,000 Unstoppable Watts Abraham Lincoln Minotaur The Amazing Kreskin ...so that's five. Songs from the Self-Titled Album / The Elephant RIders (in other words, "old shit": Big News I/II The Soapmakers The Yeti Texan Book Of The Dead ![]() ...so that's five. Songs from Blast Tyrant / Robot Hive - Exodus (two great albums, IMHO): Cypress Grove (Notes From The Trial Of) La Curandera ![]() ![]() The Regulator ![]() ![]() ![]() The Incomparable Mr. Flannery Burning Beard The Mob Goes Wild ...so that's six. Pretty balanced set in my opinion. Plus, they got La Curandera (somewhat rare) and The Regulator (pure awesomeness). I for one would have loved to be there...I hear Wino is good as well. Nice report. Maybe I'll get to meet Neil one day as well - nice goin' on that one, bro! ![]() ![]()

Good set...i just wish that it wasn't always the same 2 songs from robot hive - would love to see stuff like 10,000 witnesses and never be moved. Oh well, seeing them Friday in Philly, and 9th and 10th of October in NYC - should be awesome

Yeah The Elephant Riders isn't old shit to me and can't hold the "jock" of the 1st 2 cd's. Spacegrass, Shotgun, Monster Trucks, Binge & Purge, Impetus, R&R Outlaw, Prison Planet, 12 oz Epilogue, El Jefe Speaks, Wicker & Body of JW boothe are all superior to 90% of the music that came after them in my not-so-humble opinion.
The new cd is good but these songs are great. There are some gems in that setlist but some boring parts also. Great bands reward their fans that have been there from day 1. They don't just cater to bandwagon people or play half of their new cd to sell more copies. My point is Clutch is increasingly losing touch with that. I've seen setlists when they only played 2 songs of their 1st 2 cds and no demo's from Impetus or Pitchfork. That's a big FAIL! in my book any day.

Man, they tour Pittsburgh with a Metal legend like Scott Weinrich and it's a 21+ show, but they tour with fucking Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and it's all ages. |
