I was listening to some interview with Rita (Dimebag's girlfriend) for "March of Dime" month on SIRIUS or some shit, and how she was on her way to see Shinedown and Staind...

Man, I really, really, really hate to say this, but it's true what the fanboys say. Phil Anselmo was the "true metal" credibility of Pantera. He actually cared about the underground, and shit that wasn't just in fashion, whereas Dimebag and Vinnie were trendy as all hell. All you have to do is listen to how bad HellYeah and Damageplan were, and how Vinnie loves drinking to Disturbed. It's all a bunch of poser tough guy bullshit.

Phil has black metal influences, at least, and some crept out on Far Beyond Driven, but really, everybody in Pantera, and their musical credo, was tough guy bullshit. It's probably my least favorite thing about metal, and now the standard live persona for shitty bands is to be a tough guy, so thanks Phil. Fuck that noise.

I was referring more to Vinnie and Dime. I mean they didn't act like tough guys, but they "wore their clothes" knowwhatImean.

Josh and Brad are right: the only thing I absolutely hate about metal is the bullshit macho posturing, 'fuck you, lets fight' that people feel they need to exhibit.

Chuck is by far metal's biggest loss thus far. I'm not real big into Death anymore but his influence on the genre was huge.
