Down -- Portland, OR -- August 12, 2009

Down -- Portland, OR -- August 12, 2009 Roseland Theater

I arrived to catch most of the Danava set (missed Weedeater). The doom metal trio put on an impressive show. Shortly after I arrived, Pepper came on stage and jammed on a song. Phil could also be seen off stage enjoying the show. For their finale, Phil came on stage and joined Danava in the Sabbath tune "Wicked World".

Then came The Melvins who put on another high energy set (don't often see the use of dual drummers; impressive).

Finally... Down.

Excellent high energy show, just what you'd expect. Down brought out Danava to finish "Bury Me In Smoke" along with Phil's younger bro on guitar (apparently he just moved to Portland (?)) while Down thanks the audience.

Awesome night! Great to see Down again and cool to see their genuine appreciation for all the bands on the bill.

-Eyes Of The South
-N.O.D
-Lifer
-New Orleans is a dying Whore
-The Path
-Lysergik Funeral Procession
-On March The Saints
-Losing All
-Beneath The Tides
-Hail The Leaf
-Nothing In Return

Encore:
-Stone The Crow
-Bury Me In Smoke

I don't know why, but I expected a longer set. Although, Nothing in Return is 8+ minutes. Great song choices nonetheless!

Definitely a decent setlist..... would have loved to have heard Lysergik. I wish they were doing another evening with Down tour with no openers so they could play longer, but regardless it's fucking DOWN and opening with Eyes of the South is epic! Love to see that they're still playing both Stone the Crow and Bury Me In Smoke as well.....

Agreed, Eyes of the South is an intense opener! I love seeing Losing All as well. I hope they play it at the Cleveland Show. I'm fine with that setlist

Down's set was 90 min in all from "Eyes" to Phil's closing farwell from Stairway. Great set and presence. Definitely did not feel short-changed.
