Have you been reading the magazine interviews they've been doing? I remember Brent was all like "LOL WE AREN'T METAL WE'RE ART ROCK!" like a douchebag. Before those interviews I felt sorry for him because of all he's been through but now he's just trying to purposely push buttons.

They're not totally wrong, but I think describing one's own band as "art rock" or "progressive" is kind of douchey regardless of what the band sounds like. The listener will decide if that's what you are, you don't need to throw it in the faces of, in Mastodon's case, the METAL fans who got you where you are today. Sure, they're a prog metal act through and through and have been since Leviathan, but they don't seem to have the same attitude anymore.

Or it could just be Brent because he's a drunken asshole and Troy, Brann, and Bill are still chill and excellent dudes.
