What about drop sad but true and play either disposable heroes or battery, or damage inc. And who doesn't love Dyers Eve? F#$% Fuel and play some good Sh&%!!!!!!!!! TURN THE F'n Page?? Four horseman thank you very much! Has everyone forgotten about whiplash???????????????? DIE DIE MY DARLING...... WHat a hunk of Sh&%!!! They get set in their ways and never change, they should take a fan pole and find out what we want to hear. I've never run into a Metallica fan that said oh yeah they better play DIE DIE MY DARLING tonight.
Calm down man it's only one set. All of the songs you mentioned they should play they still do play. Unfortunately not at every show like they used to but I like them switching certian songs up every night but also it causes some sets to be subpar like this one is. The comment about them getting set in their ways and never change is way off. They're one of the few bands that actually changes songs in the set every night. I with you when it comes to getting NEM out of there. They shoudl've retired that after the tour for the Black Album i can't understand why the band has such a hard on for it. The same goes for Sad But True i like the song but it doesn't need to be there every set. If they wanna do something off the Black Album there they should switch SBT up with Wherever I May Roam which is a much better song and hasn't really been in the set at all over the last few months.

If you wanna see how they do change their set on a nightly basis go to metontour.com They've got setslists from all the shows they've done this tour.

Yeah they do switch up the songs but, I feel for 90 bucks we should get their best and 2 to 3 cover songs a set is to much and where are the songs they made their bones on. Before Death Magnetic it had been nearly 20 years since they had a hit album. It's time they pull a maiden and celebrate their history with kick ass shows from their past. Watch Binge and Purge, the And Justice tour, just watch the crowd shots. I remember the arena actually moving, the upper tier actually was moving, I miss that!!!!!!!!

They have a hard on for it because 70% of the people that go to see them love that song, not to mention that that song and Enter Sandman are their biggest songs ever in terms of mainstream popularity. Why wouldn't they play those songs? I'd understand if you'd seen Metallica a bunch of times already and have heard those songs every time, but for people who are seeing them for the first time (like me in October in Toronto), they'd probably like to hear those songs. I'm actually looking forward to hearing NEM and singing along to it since i've never had the experience of doing it. I can understand people's frustration with any band when it comes to playing the big radio singles, but it's just the way it goes on tours.

I have no problem with them doing Sandman at all I understand that but i've seen Metallica live 5 times already(it will be 6 this november) and NEM gets an OK reaction live but it's nowhere near the reaction that songs like Fade, Sanitarium and the Unforgiven get. These songs are being left out of the set in favor of NEM? As far as NEM being their second most well known song i hardly hear it a lot on my local radio anymore. I hear them play Sandman, One, Master, Unforgiven, Sad and Roam way more often. I've always considered One their second most well known song. So when people bring up about NEM being their second most famous song i really have no idea where they're getting that from. It has nothing to do with NEM being a big radio single for me it has to do with it being a plain crappy and boring song.

I've watched the Binge and Pugre Videos/DVDs many times and it's awesome but you can't live in the past forever. I was only ten when Justice came out so I never had a chance to see Metallica on that tour. I've seen them on every tour since then and no matter what they choose to play(except for NEM) they always give their best and put on a top notch performance. Also Death Magnetic is not their first hit album in almost 20 years. Load has sold 5 or 6 million copies in the US, Reload sold 3 or 4 million and St. Anger has sold about 2 million which is the same that DM has sold so far. Now I know the Loads and St. Anger are not good albums but they've all gone multi platinum and if that isn't having hit albums then what is?

As for them pulling a Maiden they've already done that. Check out the sets they played at festivals in '07 and '08 before DM came out. It's all old school shit. Check the internet you can even download some of these shows as well.

I guess it depends by region. On my local alternative/modern rock station, NEM and Sandman get the most play (other than the Death Mag. songs).

I guess as far as their most popular song, I guess it depends who you talk to. The more modern rock/alternative/non-metal crowd will probably tell you that Nothing Else matters is one of their most popular songs, while a more metal person will tell you Master of puppets and One. It's also worth mentioning that their most played song by users on Last.fm is Nothing else Matters (even more than Sandman). I Know, that could include generally non-metallica fans who just like their lighter stuff, but that just goes to show how far that song has reached to people outside of those who listen to metal and hard rock.

It would be cool though to see Unforgiven in more often. I've always considered that a heavier & less repetitive NEM in some ways.
