Highest Rated Metal Album From Metal-Archives

This site averages out every album on the site with at least 5 reviews and created a top list for each genre. Here are the top albums regardless of genre.

Overall, the top 10 albums are:

1. Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris (20 reviews, 97.3% average)
2. King Diamond - Abigail (18 reviews, 97.1% average)
3. Entombed - Left Hand Path (13 reviews, 96.6% average)
4. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death (19 reviews, 96.4% average)
5. Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny (19 reviews, 96.3% average)
6. Atheist - Unquestionable Presence (17 reviews, 96.3% average)
7. Death - Symbolic (28 reviews, 96.1% average)
8. Metallica - Ride The Lightning (28 reviews, 96.1% average)
9. Primordial - To The Nameless Dead (12 reviews, 96.1% average)
10. Kreator - Coma of Souls (19 reviews, 96% average)

My thoughts:

- really surprised Entombed is on there. I mean, I get it, but I can think of other swedish death metal albums that came out around the same time, that had the same impact and are as highly regarded as Left Hand Path that are better (coughcoughLike An Everflowing Streamcoughcough)
- I am 100% okay with Elvenefris being at the top. I can't believe that album was even composed on our plane of existence.
- Interesting that Coma of Souls made it. I'd think that some of their earlier stuff would be more popular

So whatchu think?

Morbid Saint is up there only because it is THE underground thrash album to own. I mean, it's good but it's not 96% good. No way.

I've also never understood the love that Symbolic receives. That album bores the shit out of me, but I realize I'm in the minority on that one.

WASP - The Crimson Idol has a 97% based on 10 reviews. Rather deserving in my own opinion as well. Fates Warning - The Spectre Within has a 98% based on 9 reviews.

I have no idea why those aren't included. Maybe for these top albums it takes more than 10 reviews? I don't even know.

edit: their spreadsheet has WASP at a 95% - maybe an error on their part.

We should all give John the Drummers doom project one hundred percent ratings.

We should find that person and make them suffer. One of my favorite albums of all time. It gets better every time I listen to it.

When Katatonia - Discouraged Ones is at #689 and Helloween - Better Than Raw is at #670, I no longer pay attention. Lists like this are stupid anyway and are only good for Dungeons & Dragons type personalities who need to keep arbitrary stats compiled somewhere. Just listen to whatever the fuck album you want. I'd rather someone rate the speakers and sound system it comes out of anyway...at least some science can be pointed to to help you along, not this insanity where someone's idea of art is ranked "better".
