The Decemberists -- Columbus, OH -- June 1st, 2009
Blind Pilot opened. Pretty goddamned cool. Trumpet player was a beast.
The Decemberists: 1st set, The Hazards of Love in its entirety, which comes off better live than at home. Some of the songs were actually excellent in a live setting. 2nd set: Leslie Anne Levine We Both Go Down Together Billy Liar Sleepless Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) O Valencia! 16 Military Wives Crazy on You (Heart cover) ---- Eli, the Barrow Boy Sons & Daughters Colin also played a fake song which he called the worst he has ever written entitled "Dracula's Daughter", providing commentary as he did ("This can be best described as a douchey chord progression.") One lyric went "You think you've got it bad/Try having Dracula for a dad". It was fucking hilarious. And the Heart cover was awesome. I wish they would have played any of my three favorite songs of theirs ("Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect", "The Island", or "The Mariner's Revenge Song"), but that's okay. It was fun.
