If you're a sci-fi fan, and a fan of video games, this is an absolute necessity to watch. A special effects masterpiece, this 1982 classic pushed boundaries for what was capable on-screen, and still looks the part to this day. The story and performances aren't grating despite their age and the continuing legacy of this film proves its worth. A classic in special effects and one of the few video-game related films that actually stands as a worthy celebration of the mediums crossing!

10. Chasing Amy

Top ten at LONG LAST. And here's where it gets interesting!

I have to represent my favorite Fat-Man Kevin Smith, and Clerks is the better film. Both in terms of influenced and what was achieved on the budget and capabilities. But every time I want a taste of that sweet, sweet Smith dialog and pseudo-meta examination of 90's early-mid twenties culture, Chasing Amy is on top of the list. Discussing sexuality, growing up and relationships with some racial over-tones and keeping a keen eye on the beginnings of the comic convention culture that would, some 20 years later, be at fever pitch, its a time capsule to another time, and still wholly relevant.

Not to mention the cast acts their fucking socks off. Ben Affleck was once unstoppable on-screen, and I'm so God dam happy he's back to picking better roles again.

9. Battle Royale

Never more relevant with its American cousin getting a major big screen adaptation right now.

Battle Royale is stirring, dystopic, violent, captivating and timeless. Incredible.

Terry Gilliam is flat out one of the best film-makers ever, and this is his masterpiece, in my humble opinion. Robert DeNiro is a superhero plumber in what is, essentially, the film that every other big dystopian film is trying to be. The visuals are practical and haunting. The story is easy to understand but can be deeply, deeply read into.

You could discuss it for hours and only scratch the surface. Astounding.

This is one that I've always wanted to see but just have never gotten around to. Something tells me it curb-stomps its American cousin (we're talking about the Hunger Games, right?).

Yup!

Don't get me wrong, I actually really enjoy Hunger Games, and thoroughly believe its a series far greater than its young adult fiction roots, but Battle Royale takes the concept of using teenagers killing each other as catalysts for change and just blows it out of the park.

Hunger Games 2 is better than the second Battle Royale though.
