15. Nightbreed

Clive Barker's masterpiece, in my opinion. One of the better analogies for a segregated, oppressed social minority and one of the most horrifying films in terms of imagery and deliverance. True horror, truly awesome.

14. Donnie Darko

The film that made Jake Gyllenhaal is one that is still very distinctive in a variety of ways. The tones are darky and moody, the performances earnest and left-field and the pallette is very off-beat, almost 'indie' without delving too much into obscurity. There's sensibilities here rarely seen for a film of this casting, budget and concept. Considering David Gordon-Green has released his second star-studded indie affair this year and Matthew McConnaughey re-built his career on smaller films, Richard Kelly was ahead of his time for making smaller projects more relevant at a time when most cinema fodder couldn't move for its own bloated budget.

13. Good Will hunting

Frankly, Matt Damon and Robin Williams act their socks off in a drama literally years in the making. Honest and riveting. This scene says it all:

12. The Crow

An action, gothic, horror classic, this is arguably the greatest comic book adaptation of all time, and a quality film in its own right. Famously the last film of Brandon Lee's career, everything about this is absolutely timeless. Brandon's performance is commanding, the action well-paced and imagery suitably defining 20 years on.

Not just the movie but the SOUNDTRACK. That was something that defines the early 1990's to me.

Without this movie would the goth scene have ever been the same?

Without this movie what course would Stings career have taken?

Without this soundtrack would I have ever even gotten into dark music?

I LOVE this movie.

And they want to do a remake?!?! Fuck you and your remakes! Remake Terminator. Remake Jurassic Park. Remake Silent Bob and Jay Strike Back. Leave this movie the fuck alone!

I'd imagine that watching it today you'd probably roll your eyes. I haven't seen it in close to fifteen years either. But if you were fourteen in 1994...that shit was the shit.

Yup, and I was 14 in 1994. I had so many friends just die over that movie, but I never saw it for whatever reason. After a while, it became one of those movies that I didn't want to see just so I could say that I'd never seen it.

Apparently, it paid off.
