Family Values Tour -- Denver, CO -- November 11th, 2001

And last but not least, my very first "metal" show, at least that I can recall; I'm sure I may have been to shows before this but not ones that had metal or hard rock bands

So the story begins when the tour was announced and I shit my pants; not because of the bands on the tour but seeing the word Family Values tour made me think that Korn was coming to town. As you know Korn was fucking huge from 1999-2000 due to the success of their albums Follow the Leader and Issues. From these albums they came out with the Family Values tour which featured some big names like Limp Bizkit, Rammstein, Ice-T and some other big names. Anyway when I heard this tour was starting up again in 2001 I asked my dad for tickets, not realizing Korn was not playing on the bill. I was a bit upset when I learned of this but the 2001 line-up featured some bands I liked so we went anyway

The show was held at the Pepsi Center and if my memory serves right the place was not even 50% full; it did fill up a little bit toward at the end but I think the promoters were hoping the tour name would pull more people in, but I guess not; the 2001 tour featured these bands

-Deadsy
-Static-X
-Linkin Park
-Staind
-Stone Temple Pilots

Deadsy:

The Key to Gramercy Park
Winners
Le Cirque En Rose (Obsolescence)
Flowing Glower
Mansion World
Tom Sawyer

Deadsy was not well received to say the least. Their existance of a band was due that the singer was the son of Cher. Yep. Deadsy is the one band I have seen the most booing and trashing of, and when they "covered" Rush with Tom Sawyer the place became like a giant wet frat as no one wanted to have anything to do with what was going onstage 1/10

Static X: (note: I pulled this from a different date but I think it is close if not right what they played)

Get to the Gone
Bled for Days
Permanence
Black and White
Cold
This Is Not
Love Dump
Push It

Static X was another band I loved for about 3 years then forgot about but the album Machine was pretty good and they put on a great show 8/10

Linkin Park:

With You
Runaway
Papercut
By Myself
Points of Authority
Step Up
Pushing Me Away
In the End
A Place for My Head
Crawling
One Step Closer

Linkin Park around this time was riding the overwhelming success of their debut album, Hybrid Theory and I enjoyed their set a lot as HT was and still is one of my favorite albums. I think LP was the best band of the night 9.5/10

Staind: (I also pulled this set from a different date but it seems about right)

Open Your Eyes
Mudshovel
Fade
Take It
Outside
For You
Crawl
Suffer
It's Been Awhile
Spleen

Like LP, Staind was huge with success of the album Break the Cycle; Staind was my dad's favorite band of the night as he liked them, and so did I, I just didn't think they were quite as strong as LP, imo....9/10

Stone Temple Pilots

Wet My Bed
Crackerman
Vasoline
Wicked Garden
Big Empty
Dead & Bloated
Days of the Week
Sour Girl
Creep
Still Remains
Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
Coma
Interstate Love Song
Plush
Revolution
(The Beatles cover)
Sex Type Thing

My dad and I left after a few songs because STP didn't really interest us and it was a school night.....while STP is a good band, looking band I thought they were an odd fit for this line-up; all the other bands are considered nu-metal and STP is more rock than anything.

So there you go, my first real metal show and all my shows are now reviewed here

Yea Deadsy!!!

I really haven't ever found anybody else that ever liked them either. I still listen to Commencement. Although I do understand the hate.

I also love that album and never understood why they got treated the way they did; i saw them open for Taproot (Project 86 also played if I'm remembering the tour correctly) and my god those Philly people let them have it. I dont think it was deserved, they sounded pretty good live its too bad only me and a pale fat chick with makeup caked onto her face felt the same way.

I never knew there was a Family Values Tour without Korn! You learn something every day. Great Linkin Park and Staind sets! I would also be curious to hear or watch Stone Temple Pilot's cover of "Revolution" is that is floating around somewhere.

I think i'm the only one who's actually listened to Phantasmagore. I find most of that album genuinely good. The only songs I like on Commencement are Key to Gramercy Park and their cover of Tom Sawyer.

Also, Ice-T never played Family Values. Ice Cube did.

I saw this tour too, was the second show I ever saw. I remember being terribly bored during STP, but loved the other bands. Not a fan of LP or Staind anymore, but the 14 year old me had a blast. Still listen to Static-X from time to time though.

I've actually been meaning on giving Deadsy a revisit. I remember liking only a few songs on their debut album, but now that I'm older I may be able to appreciate it more.

I was honestly a bigger fan of Commencement vs Phantasmagore. It has a few songs on there I like but overall I just always found more songs I like off of Commencement.
