I always thought FFX was hard as shit... but of course I sucked at those kind of games and never went in with a gameplan and just kept hacking and slashing and casting spells. I'd really like to get a PS2 again so I can replay the classics (and PS1 games as well), and this is one I really want to revisit again.

I remember some bosses being pretty hard and I remember a HUGE difficulty spike towards the end of the game, around the time you fight Seymor for the last time and Yunalesca. I can remember the last boss being very hard too. I actually only beat him once. On my second playthrough I was grinding for two hours before I fought him, then I got slain by a giant flying eyeball just before I was about to save (that sounds like something out of the Simpsons). I got so mad I turned it off and moved on. When I fired up my PS2 last night that save file was still on my memory card.

Another cool thing about Final Fantasy X is the sound enemies (or anyone for that matter) emit when they die. It's like this mournful weep, kind of like a kitten mixed with the air being let out of a ballon. I guess it's the "Sending" sound. It's very sad and adds a lot to the game.

Next time it goes on sale, I'll buy FF7 on Steam and see what the big fuss is about.

If you loved VIII and can put up with the terrible graphics VII will blow your mind. Then you'll become "one of us" and me and John will have someone else to talk to.

Its not just the storyline or the gameplay that make VII one of the best, but just how the leveling system/materia system/ability system/etc work with each other! Just seeing "Fire Level Up" or "New Limit Level Up" (whatever the actually wording was...) is one of the best feelings in a video game ever!

Dear Diary,

I can't believe I'm going to type this; but I played Final Fantasy X for about seven hours last night and I'm really enjoying it. The game certainly isn't without its flaws but I had to force myself to stop at four o'clock this morning.

I think the biggie is that I'm finding it really easy to get through. I don't know if I'm over-leveled (I've spend a grand total of maybe two hours grinding) but I'm probably two thirds of the way through the game and I've died a grand total of ONCE.

So I finished Final Fantasy X tonight. I may or may not write a new review of it. I probably will but right now all I can think about is Brock Lesnar suplexing John Cena over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

I'm also at a crossroads in video games. I've played a lot of Final Fantasy this year. I played through Final Fantasy XII this year, followed by Final Fantasy VIII and now Final Fantasy X. Plus I played Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns for two or three weeks. So now I don't know what to move on to. Do I give Lightning Returns another crack? I don't think enough time has passed to heal that wound just yet. If I could find my PSone memory card I'd play Final Fantasy V on my PS2. I've wanted to go back to Final Fantasy XIII again too but I just did that game last March-May so I don't think I've let enough time pass yet. I've been thinking about doing Final Fantasy IX again but I don't know if I'm straight up burnt out on Final Fantasy. I think I may be. I also have Grand Theft Auto V sitting on my shelf since Christmas that I've had zero desire to play. And I've got a strong wanting to play Valkyrie Chronicles again. I was also playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Replublic for a week or two when the Final Fantasy bug bit me back in April. Do I go back to that? I also always have a longing to have another run through the Mass Effect trilogy but I'm trying to take a year off from those games. My main thing is those are all games I own. I don't want to buy another new one. But...Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2 did come out a few months ago. One game I'm for surely not even thinking about is Final Fantasy X-2. I really enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy X and I'd rather just pretend that Final Fantasy X-2 didn't happen.

I'm leaning towards Valkyrie Chronicles followed by another crack at Lightning Returns. But I have until next Sunday when I'll need to start something else.

I'm glad that is the more burning thing in my life these days. Life is good.

I mow see your problem
You have to pick it up. I didn't think I would enjoy it at all, just felt burnt out on the GTA series, but this one is nearly perfect. The story, the missions, the characters, THE SCENERY! Don't let the 3 main characters make you feel uncertain, it works perfectly.
