I remember when Korn did this vote the setlist thing a few times. The 14 year old me thought it was sick lol.

They refused to play 3 of the most voted songs though.. Seed, Mr. Rogers and Daddy.

Fuel is an infinitely more popular song than Whiplash, so it's not at all surprising.

Did they openly refuse to do Seed and mr. Rogers? I remember them just not playing them. I remember after votes for Daddy were coming in they released a message on their website asking fans to stop voting for it because it was way too much emotionally for Jonathan Davis to play live.

If the voting stands as is, they'll be playing The Frayed Ends of Sanity in Helsinki in May.

I was looking around the website; so if the voting holds up,
- St. Anger in Vienna and all 3 German Dates

As for the current set, If you're going to see Metallica and don't want to hear Blackened, Master, Sanitarium, Lightning, Justice, Fade To Black, Bell Tolls, Battery and Creeping Death why the hell are you seeing them? I'm fine with the "fans choices" since those are all great songs. It's better than having a fucked up set with all three Unforgivens in it or stuff off of St Anger.
Yes I am talking about that show and you're right those songs you mentioned were awesome as hell but seven songs from Death Magnetic was a bit much and only one from Ride The Lightning was kind of a letdown. I know, it was an album tour, but still

The spot before the encore is perfect for it. Seek & Destroy is obviously their concert closer at this point, so if it makes the final vote where else in the set do you think they would play it? I'm not sure what you're talking about with the Orion/One/Bell Tolls sequence as I don't recall those three songs being played one after the other that often. Having Master in the second spot is great since the people always go nuts for the song and most in attendance probably aren't expecting it that soon in the show.

So, some may not be getting the songs they want but like Chris MS said, those are a very vocal minority. Metallica is going for what is getting the majority vote and we can't do anything about that. At least they're trying to do something the please the people that will see them this year.
My point was that those songs didn't really make the final cut, the band was just taking us all for a ride with this choose the set thing. After last night's show, it's nice to see a set without SBT & NEM. Whether it's long term or not, we'll see.
