I'll go because it is a Saturday in the summer and there are a few decent bands on the second stage that I would enjoy for the 30 dollar lawn ticket. Several of the bands I don't really care about (or to be honest with you I haven't heard yet or seen before), but perhaps their live show is fun. Not sure why everyone complains about concerts that they aren't going to anyway. I'm not going to a variety of shows this summer but I'm not whining about it.

Because the Internet serves 3 purposes:

1. Arguing over opinions
2. Pirating copyrighted media
3. Porn (which crosses over with #2 most times).

I meant Cannibal Corpse probably won't get nearly as much fans/exposure from something like Mayhem Fest because:

1. Cannibal Corpse is huge in the metal world
2. Everyone that goes to Mayhem Fest probably already knows of/is a fan of Cannibal Corpse

They'd make more new fans taking out bands in a different genre on a headlining tour, like they've done many times in the past (Dark Funeral, 1349, etc.)

Indeed. As we all know, there's a bunch of stuff I love that is mainstream, and a bunch I don't. The deciding factor in both is not that it's mainstream.

I doubt a lot of the 15-18 year old Avenged Sevenfold fans have listened to Cannibal corpse. They might know who they are, and know that they're a death metal band, but I doubt many of the fans of the mainstage bands are that familiar with them, so it's a chance to expose them to a new audience. You also make more new fans when doing a support tour than you do on your own headlining tour. And Cannibal Corpse has more in common with Dark Funeral and 1349 musically than they do with Avenged Sevenfold.

Yeah you'd be surprised what about 50% of the Mayhem crowd hasn't heard of already.

Cannibal Corpse isn't some super underground brazilian thrash metal band, they are the AC/DC of death metal in terms of popularity.

Except Death Metal isn't a huge commercially successful genre of rock music. Being a big fish in a small pond doesn't make the pond any bigger.
