Bandwagon and boredom....PVH5150's Top 25 Movies

This will be relatively quick compared to other "Top" threads since I really don't have time to write a long review on each selection with my new work hours.

#25: Misery (1990, Kathy Bates/James Caan, MGM)

#24: Cop Land (1997, Stallone/Liotta/Keitel/DeNiro/a shitload of others, Miramax)

I actually remember watching this movie when my Dad finally put cable in the house when I was 10. Violence and frequent cursing is something every 10 year old boy goes nuts over. I recently watched this again for the first time in over a decade and it holds up well thanks to an A-list cast.

#23A/23B: Grumpy Old Men/Grumpier Old Men (1993/1995, Walter Matthau/Jack Lemmon/Burgess Meredith/Ann Margret/Sophia Loren, Warner Brothers)

I can't pick between the two because they both make me laugh my ass off equally as much every time I watch them. In my eyes, Walter Matthau is one of the undisputed kings of comedy and along with Lemmon and supporting castmembers, these two movies are great for a bunch of laughs.

Never seen this movie, but seeing that the soundtrack includes Ratt, Quiet Riot, FireHouse, Slaughter, Scorpions, Accept, and Cinderella alone makes me want to see it.

Four (well, technically five) great picks thus far. Don't know if any of them would be in my top 25, but they're all damn fine films.

#21: The Departed (2006, Nicholson/Wahlberg/Damon/DiCaprio/fuckton of others, Warner Brothers)

Scorsese is my all time favorite director. Putting my bias aside, this is the first of four of his films on my list. Bias included, I probably could've included ten. Love/hate relationship with this movie, actually. There's nothing wrong with the movie itself. It's the fact that Scorsese won his only Best Director award for this film. I try not to get worked up about awards, but for fuck sake, when you're not winning Best Director (or Best Picture, for that matter) for Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or GoodFellas, there's a problem here.

Mickey Rourke losing to Sean Penn for Best Actor is the biggest case of Academy Award injustice in my lifetime. The Wrestler is such an incredible film and Rourke gives the performance of his career as The Ram.

I'm also a fan of Marissa Tomei's pierced tits
