23.) Mass Effect 3 (Xbox 360)

Oh man, this is gonna piss people off! Yeah, yeah, it's too low, whatever, but the reason is because it's only here at all because of the multiplayer. Mass Effect's story is too slow paced and takes too long to get going for my tastes. Apologies to AdamClark.

Anyway, the multiplayer is insanely fun. I recall many a night with my roommate and a couple of our friends cramming four TVs in our living room and playing for like twelve hours straight. Despite EA's constant buffoonery and the number of bugs, it's a great experience and I'm glad that they kept adding more and more DLC maps and characters. The Human Vanguard is one of the most fun characters to play in almost any game.

22. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (Playstation 2)

I've been obsessed with Lord of the Rings since Elementary school, so naturally a LOTR game had to appear on this list. As I said in WildandYoung's thread, I liked the Two Towers game a lot, but I feel that this one expanded on the game play and features of that one. I liked that you had more playable characters (the eight surviving members of the fellowship and Faramir), even if the hobbits were all basically the same character. This game is just a completely linear, story based hack and slash, but it kept me coming back for tons of replays. The Black Gate level and the Battle of Pelennor Fields especially got many playthroughs from me. After completion of the initial story, you unlock a horde mode of sorts called the Palantir of Saruman (and the harder level Palantir of Sauron) that gets pretty intense. Anyway, movie tie-in games usually suck, but this is one of the rare exceptions.

21. Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360)

I've only played the first two in the series, so that's why this one is up here instead of one of the (potentially) better newer ones. The second one was alright, but it just lacked the magic or whatever that the first one had. I liked the story mode because it required a little bit of stealth and finesse, but still kinda let you go balls out when doing the story assassinations. Also, I really can never get sick of getting in city wide chases with the guards. Just trying to seamlessly free run during a heated pursuit was entertainment enough. Plus, the hidden blade is one of the coolest fucking weapons in any game.

Well, there's still room on your list for Mass Efect 1 and 2, Final Fantasies 1, 4-9, 12 and Tactics and Halo. So you're alright. But if I see one Call of Doodie I'm out.

20. Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (Xbox)

An interesting concept to have an LOTR game take place outside of the book story lines, but it totally works. The game follows a group that is on a journey somewhat parallel to the Fellowship's. I love the moments where your group of adventurers have random indirect contact with the actual Fellowship such as the cut scene in the Mines of Moria. The game plays a lot like any console RPG (like Final Fantasy) with leveling and turn-based combat and random events and whatnot. After beating the game you unlock "Evil Mode" which lets you reenact the major battles of the story from the opposite perspective which is pretty cool.

A little linear and slow, but very good. The last level, once you get Aragorn, is so fucking easy.

For you I'll post my list next month, only 92% post 2003.

And you can't argue that some of the best games are coming out now.
