What about album covers? I can think of Megadeth's stuff, Dying Fetus, Ministry, but not many other political covers come to mind.

Both S.O.D. and M.O.D. Had politically-oriented album covers.

One of Consolidated's best albums was called "Friendly Fascism" and had an American flag on it.

Several of The Exploited's album covers were political, as I recall.

Left-wing groups:

Kreator
Sacred Reich
Atrophy
Nuclear Assault

I think Iced Earth is considered conservative.

If you have a friend that knows Russian, have him translate KYPCK lyrics. They sing about the USSR and the Cold War. One of their members used to work in the Finnish Embassy in Russia, I believe. They really know their history.

What about the cover of Maiden's "Women In Uniform" single?

Rise Against (melodic hardcore/pop punk)

The Agonist's singer is a vegan and super duper animal rights activist, though I don't think a lot of it comes across in her lyrics.

Machine Head has a couple of songs off The Blackening aimed at war, religion, etc. (specifically "Clenching the Fists of Dissent" and "A Farewell to Arms")

Yeah, I'm wrestling with them. I love Supporting Caste, and I always told myself it was on the borderline of metal. But according to Metal-Archives' criteria for metal, Propagandhi don't fit because they don't consistently use metal riffs.

What do you guys think of their rules? Obviously the definition of metal is amorphous, but if you had to draw the line, where would it be?

It baffles me on first blush that BTBAM, Protest the Hero, Converge, and Miss May I are not on metal-archives. Its a shit standard, but they have the biggest database.

It seems like a lot of their exclusions have more to do with "I don't like this" than "This isn't metal"
