Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals -- Seattle, WA -- January 17th, 2014

PANTURRRUUUUUHHHHHH

What a fucking fun as hell show! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it since I was feeling super shitty all day from my allergies, but I couldn't miss Phil Anselmo! Anyway, I will keep this fairly short and sweet because I am tired as hell and my voice is gone from yelling "PANTURRRUHHHHH" all night.

I got to the venue, met up with the few friends that I knew who were there, one of them got me in for free and I helped pay for my other friends ticket. We made sure to secure a good spot in the upper section in the back of the venue where we could see everything and hopefully have "decent" sound.

The first band, Sanction Eight, took the stage around 8:00pm. Their singer had a shirt that had an American Flag on it... panturuh. They were just your basic groove metal band. They had some cool parts, but not my thing overall. They got the crowd moving though, which featured tons of "Yup, I remember my first concert moments." We noticed a guy (who we called Sideburns Guy) acting like a total ass and trying to get people standing on the outside of the pit to mosh. When people stopped moshing he looked like a lost little puppy.....

Continuing on. The second band was a band called Hymns (I think) from Arkansas. No one knew who they were, but they were on Anselmo's record label. The music was ok, the vocals were very different, but the drummer was pretty awesome. No one seemed to be into them whatsoever. I tried to enjoy them, but they didn't have much stage presence at all. I felt bad though, the sound kept cutting out . Sideburns Guy returned and tried to start pits, and kept getting really physical with this little girl, probably only 16 or so, and her Mom. I believe during this set was when the little girl went psycho on him and was pretty close to kicking the shit out of him, but her friends pulled her back.

After this band came Author and Punisher. VERY WEIRD. On guy doing industrial music, and the thing he was using was very VERY weird. I really cannot even begin to describe. It was definitely not my thing, but very cool to see the dude play with the weird machine he had made. I'd recommend checking his live footage out to see what I am talking about. Oh, and Sideburns Guy came back, again, drunker than before, and tried to mosh to this Industrial/Ambient/Drone Music.... he continued starting shit with the girl and her Mom, the Mom got in her face, words were exchanged, and Sideburns Guy backed off, looked around all cocky-like, and then got caught in a headlock and thrown out by security . We cheered when the Security Guard returned. We were all sick of Sideburns Guy anyway

Finally, the guy I have been waiting to see for YEARS... PANTURRRUHS OWN!!! PHIL ANSLEMO and the illegals. This set was so fucking fun. I absolutely hated his solo stuff he put out, but it came across a little better live. The highlight of his set were the Pantera & Superjoint Ritual covers, and of course, what Phil is known best for, his talking. A Seahawks chant started after the second song and he of course had to put in his $0.02 and said "WE [the saints] ALMOST GOT YOU! WE *ALMOST* GOT YOU!!!" He then said that he hopes we go far and was cheering for us .

Superjoint Ritual was one of my favorite bands back in High School, and to hear two songs of theirs played live was a dream come true! Phil butchered the lyrics of "Waiting For The Turning Point", but stilll.... awesome to hear live . I yelled "PANTURRRUH" so much before and during his set, and it was only met with evil glares... WTF!? If there was any place to yell that and expect it to be accepted and joined in on... ITS A FUCKING SHOW WITH PHIL ANSELMO IN IT! So disappointed in the Seattle crowd

In the end, it was a really fun show, and I am glad that I pulled through and went! Now to drink tons of tea and try to get my voice back

Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals set consisted of....
Black Houses (Portal cover)
Battalion of Zero
Betrayed
Deathrattle / Fuck Your Enemy (Pantera/Superjoint Ritual medley)
Family "Friends" and Associates
Domination (ending) / Hollow (second half) (Pantera covers)
United And Strong (Agnostic Front cover)
Irrelevant Walls and Computer Screens
Waiting For The Turning Point (Superjoint Ritual cover)
Wrecked Like Clockwork (Arson Anthem cover) *not sure if actually played, but on just about every set*
A New Level (Pantera cover)

Curious as how good Marzi sounded covering the solo in New Level? Marzi can shred but was wondering how it sounded?

Is there a connection between Anselmo and Portal or is it just a random cover
