Finally made it through all my Christmas albums. Here's how I rank them plus a little blurb on each.

1. Inquisition – Obscure Verses for the Multiverse (2013)
This was fantastic. I was enjoying it a lot but the guitar work in Master of the Cosmological Black Cauldron, Joined by Dark Matter, Repelled by Dark Energy and Inversion of Ethereal White Stars sold me on it. When I heard that guitar work in the first verse of Inversion of Ethereal White Stars I knew this was in my top ten of the year. It’s funny because last Christmas I got Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm and it was probably my favorite album from that haul.

2. Gorguts - Colored Sands (2013)
Great album. The only complaint was that it was a little to long. I’d scrap that orchestral song in the middle (because I honestly thought it was terrible), cut a few minutes off a few songs and move Absconders to the final track. I was expecting something totally different and was pleasantly surprised.

3. Deafheaven – Roads to Judah (2011)
This was a good album but it just peaked to early with Violet. Everything after that song was secondary. It could’ve been longer.

4. Municipal Waste – Hazardous Mutation (2005)
Municipal Waste…listening to this I just want to see them live again.

5. Rotten Sound – Cursed (2011)
I was expecting something dirtier but I still really enjoyed it. It was cool to hear L-G Petrov on one song.

6. Mysticum – In the Streams of the Inferno (1996)
This was a fucking weird one. I heard “industrial black metal with a drum machine” and was expecting something like Blut Aus Nord. Instead I got black metal with a drum machine. Literally. Vocally it’s the closest to Emperors ‘In the Nightside Eclipse’ as I’ve ever heard. Like, carbon copy. Musically it’s a lot more “basic” than that, maybe closer to early Mayhem. But the drums are like a Scooter album. Very odd. It may have been better with real drums but then again the poorly programmed drum machine set it apart from everything else. I got the recent re-release and the pictures in the booklet are fucking hilarious.

7. Neurosis – Honor Found in Decay (2012)
This was just okay. Like every Neurosis album since 2000 songs start off slow until they reach an epic climax for the last few minutes. When it was over I was just like, “yup”. The artwork is fantastic and really puts you into the mindset for the album.

8. Delirium – Semantic Spaces (1994)
This is an album I heard fifteen years ago and finally got my own copy of it. I enjoyed it more fifteen years ago. It sounds really dated now. The songs with vocals are great, really great, but there are a few instrumentals in the last half that just drag on to long.

9. The Dillinger Escape Plan – Ire Works (2007)
This was just okay.

10. Alice in Chains – the Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (2013)
This album just didn’t do it for me. It was just too long. I think a few more listens may be in order.

11. Deftones – Diamond Eyes (2010)
Nothing on this album jumped out at me. It was good but forgettable.

12. Septicflesh – the Great Mass (2011)
I had high hopes for this album, last Christmas I got their 2008 album Communion and loved it. This album has better orchestration, better sound and better production. But it just doesn’t have catchy songs. There’s a couple good songs towards the beginning of the album (The Vampire From Nazareth and Pyramid God) but by the end I was bored to tears.

13. The Dillinger Escape Plan – Operation Paralysis (2010)
This is by far the worst album I’ve heard by the Dillinger Escape Plan. It too far removed from their debut for me. To much piano. Not that there's anything wrong with piano but how can the same band that wrote this write this?
12/16 -- Dillinger Escape Plan
12/29 -- Municipal Waste(?)
12/30 -- Clutch

I should be saying the same thing about "Treghet". He use to be a regular on here all the time. I hope he's alright.
