High on Fire -- San Francisco, CA -- December 11th, 2013

Just getting around to a quick review since I'm knee deep in finals, and the tour will be complete in a few hours.

Sadly I had to rush to the city and made it just as Kvelertak was starting, if they weren't playing I probably wouldn't have gone. They sounded killer, but there wasn't as much energy as I was expecting since the crowd was pretty weak until the end of their set; for those of you who have been to the Regency it was less full than what it usually looks like for the opening band. This was one of those in between'ers that would've been an easy sellout at Slims but a little to small to fill the Regency. Anywho, things picked up as the crowd warmed up and Kvelertak got a nice ovation at the end of their 45 minute set.

This was somewhere around my 15th High on Fire show, so I don't expect anything less than a slaughter. I can't really recall anything other than great performances other than ones that were just too short. No difference this time. Great song selection, Razor Hoof, Hessian and Fireface are some of my favorites. Only complaint is that it was over in about an hour.

Kvelertak
Åpenbaring
Spring fra livet
Mjød
Fossegrim
Ulvetid
Bruane Brenn
Månelyst
Evig Vandrar
Offernatt
Blodtørst
Kvelertak

High on Fire
Fertile Green
Razor Hoof
Fury Whip
Madness of an Architect
Cometh Down Hessian
Eyes and Teeth
Fireface
Rumors of War
Baghdad
Serums of Liao
Slave the Hive
Snakes for the Divine

This is the first HoF tour that I've missed in like three years. Is this what growing old feels like?

^ Yes. And then you get married and it gets worse. And then you have a kid and it gets worse. And then you have another kid and it gets worse. And then you have twins and then it gets fucking ridiculous. And then you get assigned to a twelve-month project at work that consumes your whole fucking life and you basically fall off the fucking grid altogether.

And then, at some point, you die.

Sorry - may have been thinking about a rather specific situation that happened to someone I know recently.

On the bright side, as long as you keep the horns up you can still be happy no matter what life throws at you.

EDIT: ...and oh yeah, those are both pretty great sets. Sad I had to miss this tour (see above for clues as to why).

Just wait until you go to shows and see kids half your age destroying everything. While you sit back and stay out of the way because you have a bad back, a bad knee and sore feet. Getting old sucks.

I'm glad most venues seem to have the pit areas with barriers/checkpoints to drinking areas so I can drink my beer in peace without those young whippersnappers jostling me.
