Riffs... Need I say more?

Riffs? Check. Odd Time Signatures? Check. (Not that matters. But they are fun.) Vocal range spanning numerous octaves? Check. Songwriting of Superb Proportions? Check. Everything I love about Progressive Metal into one convenient package? Let's add up another check to this bitch. Nevermore, (Like the previously listed, Enslaved) formed in the early 90's and (unlike Enslaved) started writing Facefucking Riffs that showcase how a band can be heavy as all hell while having all clean vocals. (I know too many people who think bands are only heavy if they have breakdowns and squeal like some dying farm animal) Nevermore has never released an album that I have found disappointing, but of the 2000's This Godless Endeavor showcases their capability of writing musical masterpieces the greatest.

This is Modern Heavy Metal at it's finest. No Frills (besides technicality, which is a plus in my book. As the technicality promotes the song writing and is not mindless wankery.) No gimmicks. Just a modern metal masterpiece.
This Godless Endeavor (the song) has my favorite guitar solo of all-time. It's too bad Warrell sings over half of it.

The two albums not listed yet are from Canada and Germany.
Any guesses?

Lets get this shit done.
NUMBER 2. Canadians first.

UneXpecT-In a Flesh Aquarium
2006
ADD Metal

UneXpect is a band that is inept at being pigeonholed into a single genre category. UneXpecT consisted of 7 genius musicians in the recording of their magnum opus In a Flesh Aquarium. The members consist of Female clean vocals, harsh male vocals, guitar players, piano, samples, 9-string bass, drums and violin. This album bleeds technicality and has some of the greatest albeit indubitably random transitions in the genre of metal. Progressive Black metal riffage into a sudden waltz, jazz into electronic, operatic backgrounds with overlaying riffs. This is a perfect album for people who need something constantly changing, musically proficient, and hooky as all hell. Batshit crazy. It is a total mindfuck and pretty much sodomizes any band that is dubbed "strange." This is strange. This is textbook definition of strange. An I will never get enough of it.

Equilibrium-Sagas
2008
Viking/Folk Metal

The Most Dancable Black Metal Album of All Time.
Sometimes there is an album out there that tugs on your heartstrings and brings some form of rapturous joy. Enter Equilibrium. This German metal band makes me damned happy for some reason. The folk elements bring to life such a level of cinematic epicness that it is hard not to grin. Prolog Auf Erden opens the album with something that I believe could be played in tandem to the charge scene in the movie Braveheart (except instead of English and Scottish, the band is of German tongue.) The 16 minute epic Mana, is one of the most moving instrumental metal tracks of all time in my honest opinion. While the riffs are solid, they are not the most technical but in all honesty the folk elements make this album shine and work with the overall album in perfection.

This album gives me an 80 minute escape from reality and puts me in a place where my serotonin depleted brain can experience some form of musical ecstasy. I feel content when I listen to this album.
