Alcest-Écailles de lune
2010
Blackgaze

One of the first times I listened to this record was when I was under the influence of a cocktail of various ADD meds/Antidepressants/Antipsychotics/Neurotransmitter replenishers/Anti-Seizure medication/Anti-anxiety drugs in order to find some sort of curate for my depression and anxiety, and was also asked to meditate. This album is the first album I successfully meditated with, however instead of focusing on the breathing I was focusing on the wonderous "Fairly Land" soundscapes (as I do not speak the French language, in spite being a quater descendent) Neige had conjured within his dreams. One of the few times I felt relaxed, and (somewhat) at peace in a long time. The album hits home with a blend of Post-Rock/Shoegaze/Black Metal that produces a stellar wall of sound everyone should experience. Corny story, but sometimes the mood the music strikes along with the music itself may cause an increased appreciation of an album.

The trifecta opening is practically flawless when in a certain state of mind.

Being my forgetful self I only wrote down 20 of the top 21 albums of the 21st century.
I have numbers 1 and 2 down. But to fill out the third slot I came up with a three way tie.
IE. I have five albums. 2 were already written in as my personal top 21 albums of the 21st century, but the other 3 were added last minute.
Should I post all three as position number 3?

Fuck it. Here is a three way tie for position 3.

Anaal Nathrakh-The Codex Necro
2001
Blackened Noisegrind

This album screams malevolence, hatred, and misanthropy. I may not listen to this album all the time but when I am having a rough day, this noisey hatefest is my narcotic of choice. Elements of noise (Merzbow anyone?), Grind, and Black metal make this one of the most extreme albums of the 21st century. Anaal Nathrakh is here, and they will end you.
When Humanity is Cancer
Pandemonic Hyperblast

ChThonic-Mirror of Retribution
2009
Taiwanese Melodic Black Metal

Read the genre description. Emphasis on the Taiwanese. The vocalist occaisonally plays a damn Erhu. A very unique and foreign, and extremely melodic take (in regards to the Erhu and keyboards, and riffs, fuck it, its melodic) on Black metal. You can listen to both the English and/or Taiwanese versions. Albeit, if you plan on seeing them live in America they play the English adaptations.
Blooming Blades
Forty-Nine Theurgy Chains

Intronaut-Valley of Smoke
2010
Post/Progressive Metal

FANTASTIC FUCKING SONGS THAT DESERVE ALL CAPS. Dynamics, melodies, technicality, atmosphere, a few polyrhthyms, everything that makes an album monolithic albeit technical AND DIGESTABLE?!??!?! is fucking gold in my book. Fantastic. Honestly, I can't believe I forgot it off my list initially. The bass tone on Elegy is glorious.
Elegy
Miasma

Thanks a lot man! I have 2 more. I did not mean to do a 3 way tie but as I mentioned earlier... makes it 23 instead of 21 but alas...

March 11 at Oakland Metro. A Tuesday. I'm not even too sure I can swing it but if I don't have any midterms the next day I'll more than likely find a way there
