Agalloch-The Mantle
2002
Post Atmospheric Blackened Doom Folk

Possibly the most spiritual and somber metal album in earthly existence. The tandem combo of A Celebration for the Death of Man.../In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion defines this spirituality not only through thematic lyrical dwellings " Through vast valleys I wander
To the highest peaks
On pathways through a wild forgotten landscape
In search of God, in spite of man
'til the lost forsaken endless
This is where I choose to tread"
but also through the songwriting itself. While, The Mantle in itself is not dubbed "Atmospheric Insert metal genre here" The Mantle is the paradigm example of how atmosphere through musical instrumentation and occasional minimalism can put a human entity in an entirely separate place spiritually.

Nothing I can say can truly give credit to this album. I just hope people will be willing to take the plunge and envelop themselves in Agalloch's Mantle.

In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion
...And the Great Cold Death of the Earth

This.
Sad fact: The day I was about to purchase the tickets for the Symphony X/Nevermore/Powerglove tour, is the day Nevermore dropped and shortly broke up.

Protest the Hero-Kezia
2005
Riffy Mathcore

One of the few metalcore bands that does not make me want to inject 100% heroin and pray for death due to the gargantuan amount of monotonous breakdown cuntscum riddled shit metal (Every breakdown in this album is wellplaced and showcases some form of psuedo-technicality). Protest the Hero is a troupe of relatively young Canadian musicians who focuses on their instrumentation and song craftsmanship and should not be brushed off due to their image, vocalist, or genre.

Side Note: Probably the most interesting lyrical concept of all their (4) LPs.

Cattle Decapitation-Monolith of Inhumanity
2012
Progressive Deathgrind

While this album is relatively new, This album is balls out heavy as fuck chock full of downtuned riffs and slams, bass lines, drum fills, evil as fuck vocal sounds, dynamics...... What was that? Dynamics in Deathgrind? Fuck yes there are.

The song "Dead Set on Suicide" is an extremely fun track with riffs, a random bass solo, imitation of someone on a noose vocal sounds, and well placed slams/breakdowns.

While many people complain about the "cleans," I find these gargling, blasphemous ravings to be quite fitting within the confines of the album.

Also the aptly titled, Forced Gender Reassignment, is not a metaphor for anything. If you want some controversial NSFW music video you can search the interwebs for it.

Dead Set on Suicide

Between the Buried and Me-Colors
2007

The greatest album that is a single song since Edge of Sanity's Crimson and Sleep's Dopesmoker (the latter probably would have had a shot at the list, butI thought it came out in the 1990's to only further prove that this list aptly dubbed "A Noob's Personal Top 21 Metal albums of the 21st Century", but alas I am an ignorant shit.)

I think we discussed our eerie similarity at Agalloch in September. Hopefully, there are some albums you are not familiar with, or you dislike
