Doc points out in his blog that even in 2009 when they did Mayhem fest, it was a clusterfuck - people had stopped caring. I'm glad they ended though, better to end than struggle on like Chimaira or Shadows Fall.

Shadows Fall is still quite popular haha. Chimaira however isn't

Wouldn't go as far as to say that. They were touring w/ huge bands in the early 2000s & getting on huge tours (Ozzfests, Jäger Tour w/ Stone Sour, Headbangers Ball Tour, did they do Sounds of the Underground ever?). Last big thing I recall was that one day Ozzfest in what '08 & touring w/ FFDP & Otep & they couldn't even headline over FFDP who were still early on before getting huge?

Don't they pretty much do tiny clubs now? I still like SF but they've dropped big time. They aren't at Chimairia level yet but they are getting close. On top of Jon going to Anthrax.

I gotta admit I am very bummed about this. Equilibrium was their best album since Gone Forever. But I could tell the band wasn't going to keep happening forever after I saw them headline last year.

This, not to mention Jason is in Toxik now. On top of that, their bassist is MIA and they've been using a fill-in recently. I think Shadows Fall won't last much longer either. Maybe as a studio thing with occasional shows, but not as a full time band.

I saw God Forbid and Shadows Fall together earlier this month, the crowd sucked and was mostly there for crappy local bands

It was heartbreaking

Was Shadows Fall ever doing more than tiny clubs on their own though? Even at their peak on a major label they never reached the KsE/Lamb of God level some people thought they would. And they did Sounds of the Underground in 2007.

Shads has a tour with Hatebreed coming up where they're direct support so that should be ok for them. And they did that KsE tour a year ago too. Also Mayhem fest in 2010.

Yeah Shadows Fall were one of the few metalcore bands i liked. They had more thrash elements to them. I remember seeing their video for Thoughts Without Words on MTV2. I was like "holy shit a guitar solo", back in 2002 that was rare. I checked out The Art of Balance and really dug it. Then The War Within came out and hit #20. That was big at the time. I think they might have been one the first of those bands to come out of the 2000s to have that kind of success. They played the main stage at Ozzfest 2005 and had a Grammy nomination a few years later... Then their popularity seemed to decline. Their last couple albums have cracked the top 40 though.

Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, God Forbid. That's pretty much it, unless someone can give me some other metalcore bands like these.

Unearth. And All That Remains before they took a visit to the cheese factory.
