Finger Eleven- The Grayest of BLue Skies

"First Time" (Anderson, Black, Lanni, Rick Jackett) 4:26
"Drag You Down" 3:21
"My Carousel" 3:43
"Sick of It All" 3:18
"For the Ocean" 2:56
"Broken Words" 3:27
"Suffocate" 3:44
"Bones + Joints" (Black, Lanni) 3:47
"Famous" 4:08
"Walking in My Shoes" (Martin Gore) 3:52
"Stay and Drown" (Anderson, Black, Lanni, Sean Anderson) 4:23

Haza another Canadian band

This is another case of loved the single, didn't even listen to the rest; the single here is Drag You Down, and it was my addiction for about 2 months. It was slow, dark and had really deep lyrics like "Someone's going to have to pull me under before I drag you down". Really makes you think

Anyway, I lost interest in the band and they haven't really hit my radar at all. But I do give this album credit for digging for more out of the way bands that weren't always playing 24/7 on MTV

today's score 3/10

Finger Eleven is the only band I ever saw get booed off a stage.

This compilation was really influential to me when I was first getting into death metal. I got it when I bought Napalm Death's The Code Is Red and it first got me heavily into bands like Aborted, Behemoth, Bloodbath, Rotting Christ and Jungle Rot.

Do yourself a favour and go back and listen to the rest of the album, because it's really good. They went in a really, really terrible direction after this album (and especially 2007 onwards), but Greyest of All Blue Skies has some great songs on it. At least check out First Time, the other single from this album, and Bones & Joints (which may have been a single but probably not). Just listen to the whole album so you can at least see that they weren't always the shitty poppy-rock that they are now.

Way before. In the mid-1990's they went by the name Rainbow Butt Monkey's. In late 1997 Primus was playing in Toronto with Limp Bizkit and Powerman 5000 opening. For whatever reason Limp Bizkit and Powerman 5000 couldn't make it, so Finger Eleven was added as a last minute replacement. They had just changed their name to Finger Eleven a few months before and didn't have much stuff so they still played a couple Rainbow Butt Monkeys songs. I don't even know if their first album Tip was out at this point.

Onto the booing, Limp Bizkit was just starting out and was still a buzz band at this time. They weren't the annoying anomaly they'd become in the years after. So a lot of people (myself included) really wanted to see them. Word got out in the line outside that Limp Bizkit weren't playing and people were mad. Finger Eleven went on and the booing started right off the bat. After four or five songs Finger Eleven basically said "fuck this" and got off the stage. Anyone else could've been on stage and gotten booed that night, people wanted to see Limp Bizkit. It just happened to be Finger Eleven and I'll always remember that night.

I discovered Behemoth with that comp too.

This had an enormous impact on me as it had songs from Godflesh, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Carcass and Entombed, none of whom I had heard before and all of whom would become legends. At the time this compilation was released, none of the above mentioned bands had anything for sale in the US at all. A friend of mine who had got some Napalm Death imports encouraged me to get this, I think he wanted to hear some of the other Earache bands as well. I got it and my life long love of Godflesh and Napalm Death was born.

Static X- Machine

Sorry this hasn't been updated for a bit; quite busy with work and internship....I'm pretty much done with the music I got into in 2000 so I'm going to move forward to 2001

1. "Bien Venidos" 0:21
2. "Get to the Gone" 2:49
3. "Permanence" 4:01
4. "Black and White" 3:50
5. "This Is Not" 2:57
6. "Otsego Undead" 3:29
7. "Cold" 3:40
8. "Structural Defect" 3:39
9. "Shit In a Bag" 4:21
10. "Burn to Burn" 4:17
11. "Machine" 3:27
12. "A Dios Alma Perdida" 5:58

2001 was the year I felt like I started getting into more heavy material over the radio/MTV friendly stuff; and Machine really knocked me over

Starting with a gentle Latin jingle it turns heavy and dark quick with Get to the Gone. While this album is far from perfect some of the songs like Black & White, Cold, and Burn to Burn really started to mold the type of metal I still like today; plus you have to give props to a band not afraid to have a song called Shit in a Bag which is a song about.....shitting in a bag on tour bus

Static-X kinda faded away and in the latter parts of their career felt like a joke almost; but this is album I can pop in today and enjoy as much as I did in 2001

Today's score 7.5/10
