John The Drummers most favoritest albums (and maybe DVDs) and junk Thread!

Yes, this thread is totally taken from adamclark's Favorite Album's thread, but it's a great idea and figured I'd share some of my most favorite albums ever.

I'll start it soon, and hopefully stick with it, unlike every other list thread I make
In advance, this will not be in order, there will be no "NUMBER ONE", it is just a list of albums that I love... and junk, as the thread title says . So hopefully there will be some stuff that not many people know of that will be interested in and check out.

MURRICA!

Ever Growing List of Albums In This Thread
1. Pantera - Power Metal
2. Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony is a Dead Scene
3. Windir - Arntor
4. I - Between Two Worlds
5. Sworn - Bastards & Conquerors
6. Trench Hell - Southern Cross Ripper
7. !T.O.O.H.! - Order and Punishment

Pantera
Power Metal (1988)

Glam Metal

I know, I know, I know "Goddamnit, John, I thought this was going to be a serious thread!" Well I am 100% serious on this. Pantera "Power Metal" to me is an amazing album. I cannot tell you how many times I've randomly put it in and found myself failing to at hitting Phil Anselmo's falsettos . Pantera released 4 albums prior to their "debut" Cowboys From Hell, and this one, to me at least, is the best. It's fun, its cheesy, its a great listen if you just need something to jam out to when you're bored.

Stand Out Tracks:
Proud To Be Loud - www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNO-UcKcoIk
Power Metal - www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-mnu8H2qQ0

Dillinger Escape Plan featuring Mike Patton
Irony Is a Dead Scene (EP) (2002)

Experimental Metal

This may piss off some people, but this is the only DEP album that I actually enjoy. I respect them for how much heart they put into their performances, but their current musical state just does not affect me at all. This EP that they did with Mike Patton, however, is a masterpiece. Right when I saw "featuring Mike Patton" on the cover I KNEW this would be a weird, yet enjoyable, album, and I was correct. It jumps from genre to genre. They have their normal chaotic sound, then they'll play some soft section, then back into chaos, then into some weird jazzy sounding spot. Sure they do that now, but the fact they are doing it with Patton on this gives it a special place in my heart. If you are a fan of of Mike Patton's work, but do not like DEP, you still need to give this a shot.

It's only 4 songs, listen to the whole thing...

I'm glad you're going to include movies in your thread. I was going to put video games in mine but I thought it was too far away from music to be in the "Album Reviews" section. And the video game soundtracks I posted in my thread were from my favorite games anyway.

Well by DVD's I more so meant Live Concert DVD's, but movies isn't a bad idea either!

Windir
Arntor (1999)

Black/Folk/Viking Metal

Quite possibly one of the most atmospheric, yet still beautiful and energetic albums to ever be released, in my opinion. This whole album is filled with golden song after golden song, and features the track that I honestly feel may be the best song ever recorded, "Svartesmeden Og Lundamyrstrollet". It was Windir's second full length album, and despite the still somewhat raw and ambient production (ambient as in lots of background noise) it is an amazing album. For those of you that have not listened to this album, or even Windir at all, please do your ears a favor and do it . It is too bad that Valfar passed away, because after listening to their 4 main releases it only leaves you wanting more and more of his amazing music.

I'm always up for some mid-to-late 1990's Scandinavian black metal. That song Svartesmeden Og Lundamyrstrollet is pretty whack. It reminds me of the earlier Blut Aus Nord albums but a little cleaner and happier. I really like the keyboards (it may be guitars as well) in the first four minutes.

Between Two Worlds (2006)

A very underrated and underplayed album from one of Black Metal's biggest stars, Abbath of Immortal. This album takes on a more Black 'n' Roll style, and is rockin from beginning to end! Song after song makes you want to headbang and throw the horns up in the air, and despite it's rocking nature, it still has that cold winter breeze of a guitar tone that Abbath is known for. If you are a fan of Immortal, Bathory and Motorhead and wanted to know what it'd sound like if you combined the three bands, then check this album out, you will not be disappointed.
