311 -- Clarkston, MI -- July 7th, 2013

It's basically become a summer tradition for me that the 3 shows I'm guaranteed to attend at Pine Knob every single year are the Mayhem Fest, Ted Nugent, and 311. 311 is essentially the perfect outdoor live band.

I caught the last 2 or 3 songs by G Love & Special Sauce. I had seen them before. They're OK, just not my cup of tea.

Next was Cypress Hill, and they were, um, interesting. They pretty much covered all of the marijuana basses, and the crowd ate that up w/ a spoon.

311 headlined. They are a truly under-rated band IMO. They're all really good musicians. They put on an excellent live show. It's fun as hell, and they always mix up their setlists. That way the true fans are guaranteed to hear a few of the less-expected deep cuts. They always play their biggest hits like "Down," "All Mixed Up," and "Beautiful Disaster," but they always throw in some pleasant surprises. For me those songs last night were "And A Ways To Go," "Don't Tread On Me," "Hive," and "From Chaos." This was an EXCELLENT set by 311. Go see them if you get a chance. I guarantee you'll have a blast and leave the show as a fan. Setlist:

Jackpot
Hive
Homebrew
All Mixed Up
From Chaos
Rock On
Champagne
Wild Nights
You Wouldn't Believe
Applied Science (w/ drum jam)
Down
Sunset In July
Six
Brodels
And A Ways To Go
Bass Solo
Beautiful Disaster
Don't Tread On Me
Sun Come Through
Don't Stay Home
Feels So Good
--encore--
Amber
Creatures (For a While)

my first "real" concert was 311 at Pine Knob on the Transistor tour, in 1997. it was the summer before my freshman year of high school. Even though I lost track of them after the Evolver album, they always held a special place with me because they were one of the first bands from my generation that I really, really got into, especially the Music album.

My sister's favorite band is 311 so I grew up listening to them. Finally saw them a few summers ago and they really are solid live.

I kinda wish they'd play Count Me In and Time Bomb.

I'm going to go see this tour on the 23rd, and we get Sublime w Rome and Pennywise as well.

311 was my first concert, way back in November 1997. I've only seen them one other time, but I will say they're a great live band. I don't think they've put out a good studio album since Transistor (each of their subsequent albums have had some decent songs, but no entire album has been solid), but if you even remotley like them, they're worth seeing live. They're constantly switching up their setlists (not just a few songs, but usually 8-12 songs each show) and are great musicians.

I've seen them play Count Me In once, I think, and Time Bomb several times, so you may get your wish.

Wow! I'm surprised to see a 311 entry here. I just had my 32nd 311 show this past Saturday at Jones Beach. It was my 3rd show this summer.

Over those 3 shows, I got 41 unique songs. Only 10 of those were repeats in one or more shows.

They consistently vary their setlists and always play deep cuts. I can't wait until 3-11 Day in NOLA....it will be my 4th 3-11 Day.

They have their own database for setlists: www.setlist.com/311

EDIT: Soundsystem and From Chaos are solid albums front to back. Yes, Universal Pulse is their best since From Chaos, IMO. Evolver, Don't Tread on Me, and Uplifter are also good, but have some duds on them. Still, I very rarely skip any of their songs when listening to a disc. Really, I always listen to 311 on random.

That database is awesome. 311 is without a doubt the best band I actually enjoy as far as changing up their setlists.
