That outro at the end of the album sent chills down my spine.

I will never ever forget spinning the record on my dad's hi-fi system and my shitty el-cheapo turntable and the last half of Wheels of Confusion being the heaviest fucking thing I had ever heard at the time. But yeah, I'm really happy that people are liking 13, I can't wait to give it a listen.
Vol. 4 is a good album in the grand scheme of all things metal but I just don't think it compares well with the best of the Ozzy era albums.

Fair enough, and I was just messing with you haha. Master of Reality is basically heavier than time itself, so stacking Vol. 4 against it is a rather unfair battle.

I love Volume 4. It's got the heaviness of Master of Reality in some areas, but it gets more progressive. It's the perfect link between Master of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. In Tony's book he called SBS something like the "pinnacle" of Black Sabbath. And I completely agree. It's heavy, sorta progressive, but you can still smell the bluesy jam influence. It also sounds huge, even all this time later.

The only reason I don't think 13 will be able to compete with Volume 4 for me is variety. My impression of 13 from "God is Dead," the bit of "End of the Beginning" on CSI, and from band interviews is that they're really channeling the Black Sabbath-Paranoid-Master of Reality vibe. Which is fine. Those albums are tremendous, and I mean, eventually the variety and progressive elements sort of overwhelmed things on Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die.

Anyways, I never expected 13 to beat the first six Sabbath albums. But if it can sit along side of them then it will be a win, and if it can easily sit next to them... then it's a big win.

Honestly, it's just kind of awesome that in 2013 there's a bona fide Black Sabbath album being released. (At least Forbidden won't go down as the last "official" Black Sabbath album...)

Volume 4 is probably the best thing Sabbath ever did. Just sayin'.

End of the Beginning, Age of Reason, and Damaged Soul are instant classics.

Waiting for the deluxe version to give it a listen through, since that's an extra 3 tracks.

In your opinion. In my opinion its a toss up between Master Of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or Sabotage.

Volume 4 has Supernaut. So that statement is indeed true.

Wow. So beyond surprised at how good this is. I was hoping it would be good and my expectations are succeeded.

Christopher hit the nail on the head. I absolutely love the outro as well. They brought back the rain and bells from the song Black Sabbath. Now it kind of feels like everything has come full circle 43 years after the S/T album came out. This will be an easy lock for the end of 2013 list on here.

Also this talk of Volume 4 has me wanting to revisit the album again, I don't care for the album a lot but I feel like I need to try it again.
