Oh fer chrissakes.

Why should Slayer quit? Because one of its members died they're supposed to hang it up and sit at home and pout? Because they should preserve some legacy that exists only in the minds of a few fans who think way too deeply about shit like legacies?

Nonsense.

There are still a lot of people that want to go to Slayer shows and there is a lot of money left for Slayer to make (or for Tom and Kerry to make and hide from Dave or whoever they have drumming for them). Kerry has said on multiple occasions that the amount of money they get offered for package tours these days is obscene. Good for them. They deserve it because Slayer is fucking awesome.

Gee, what should they do? Turn all that cash down so they can retire and sit at home? Or start some side project that nobody will give a shit about? No, they should keep playing if they want to keep playing and are able to keep playing.

Getting paid a lot of money to play Slayer songs is a helluva lot better than getting paid nothing to retire Slayer. I guarantee everyone of us on this board would choose to get paid a lot of money to play Slayer songs over retiring Slayer and getting nothing if presented with that choice.

I've been meaning to have a "Slayer Day" at work and just listen to their whole discography, but I keep forgetting to put them on my MP3 play

I really need to re-buy Undisputed Attitude, Divine, Diabolus and Christ Illusion (I think I still own God Hates Us All). I also need to get a copy of World Painted Blood. Sure the last two weren't that great, but whatever, I still want to pay tribute to Jeff.

My band is going to be playing a big fest in honor of our fallen friend, but I am sure it will double as a Jeff Hanneman tribute show as well, so we are planning on bringing our "Criminally Insane" cover out of retirement for this show (think I already said that, sorry).

Yeah that makes sense for Kerry and Tom, since they have zero integrity to begin with.

Exactly, because they're Slipknot. You can get any guy off the street and dress him up in a clown outfit, put him on stage with a bass and nobody would no the difference... And you're comparing some guy in Slipknot to one of the greatest song writers in all of metal?

This. All of it.

I seem to recall the Who going on tour a few days after Entwistle died . Didn't seem to hurt their legacy.

You're confusing "What Slayer Should Do" with "What Slayer Will Do"

This is probably the wrong thread to say this in and the wrong time to say it, but since i'm a huge fan of Slipknot and Paul Gray wrote the majority of their songs, and I like 4-5 Slayer songs and think the rest of their catalogue is mediocre/boring, I'd like to say i'm comparing a great songwriter in Slipknot to a guy who wrote a few good riffs for 4-5 songs and then repeated those riffs for the other songs they wrote.

The point is you have to take your opinion of a band's music out of it when comparing the two situations and look at them objectively. Both bands had integral members pass away who both appeared to write the majority of the music for those bands. Both bands have decided to continue to play on. And people get up in arms about one and not the other.

In spite of all the negativity in this thread, one of the positives to come out of Jeff's death for me is that a friend told me my new favorite joke.

Why is Kerry King so big?

Hella weights

Try listening to more Slayer other than what you heard on Guitar Hero... Like i said before, Jeff wrote some of the most memorable, influential songs in all of metal. Paul Gray was a guy that wrote watered down "radio metal" for a gimmick band. So yeah, people are gonna be a little more upset about Jeff passing than some guy in a jumpsuit and a mask...

That's like saying "why is everyone up in arms about Ronnie James Dio dying, and no one seems to care about the guy from Suicide Silence."... Because one is a legend and the other is NOT.
