Actually, it's the director of Blue Valentine, not Drive.

I saw it today and loved it. I think most people will be put off by the length and the slow pace, though.

I've been wanting to see Place Beyond the Pines badly. Haven't seen any of Derek Cianfrance's previous work, but the trailer and cast are excellent.

Going to see Place Beyond The Pines today, saw Scary Movie 5 today since that was all I could go see in the time between picking people up.

Holy fuck was it horrible, I mean like 0.5/10 bad. I gave a quick laugh once and that was all. No one in the theater (not even the 13 year olds) were really laughing at all even.

None of the Scary Movies were good but those things just get worse and worse. The first one was about a 5/10 and with each movie it just gets worse. I'd say they've been under 1.0 since Epic Movie.

Place Beyond The Pines was good, the 1st and 2nd 3rd of the movie was great (though the 2nd 3rd was a little cliche), the last 3rd was just way too predictable and wasn't nearly as good as the rest of the film. It was a solid film though.

I also saw Trance, which was really entertaining and solid.

The thing that's killing me though is the amount of backlash it's getting from mainstream audiences. It's a social commentary on how batshit crazy the party culture is in the United States right now (it really does a great job of capturing just how insane it is) and everyone is just saying it's a borderline porno with no plot. It's a lot to take in and the story is told in non-linear fashion with a lot of voiceovers and other abstract filmmaking techniques I can completely understand someone absolutely hating it (Like I said earlier, there were parts of it I hated.) Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just know what it's trying to accomplish before writing it off as a mindless piece of shit people.
It was quite brilliant really, so many people despised it and were disgusted by it, but that was the point. Korine did a great job commenting on our current society and it was beautiful to look at. Most people don't like watching movies that make them thing though, so whatever.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. It was way more subtle, which some may or may not like. Not as great as Oldboy or Thirst, though.

I thought the 3rd part was great but dragged a small bit sometimes. Didn't end like I expected though.
