I've been meaning to get into the Flaming Lips. I was thinking i'd start with Embyonic since that one seems to be the most popular but would you say the one you posted is a better starting point?

I actually think Embryonic is pretty bad. I'd say start with Soft Bulletin or Yoshimi

This album has it all. Killer riffs, awesome solo's, groovitude melodies and just an overall badass style. If all melodic death metal sounded like Arghoslent, the world would be a better place. Riffs and solo's come first, posers leave the hall!
You're a racist asshole for supporting this white supremacist trailer trash band!

Arghoslent and Wu-Tang back-to-back makes me LOL.

Cool list so far, dude!

On the topic of the Flaming Lips; I've always thought Clouds Taste Metallic was a really cool album.

Windir - 1184

Todeswalzer
Black New Age
Journey To The End

There has never been a band like Windir and there will never be another. Putting their totally unique spin on their own blend of black, viking and folk metal, 1184 is as brutal as it is majestic. Their story was cut far too short, but they left some amazing music behind.

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Funeral Fog
Pagan Fears
Dy Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Funeral Fog was one of the first metal songs I heard and it was a lost cause afterwards. DMDS is pretty much the blueprint for all 2nd-wave black metal and nothing even comes close to replicating the haunted coldness that emanates from it. Atilla's vocal delivery set the standard for every black metal vocalist that didn't want to shriek and it's still disturbing to this day. The definition of classic album.

Fuck yeah to Wu-Tang and Mayhem. Dom is my favorite black metal album of all time.
