I grew up in the suburbs south of Detroit. I would say that the hotels at the casinos are pretty decent; really most of the big name hotels downtown should be Ok. They did quite a bit of work on the hotels before Detroit hosted the Super Bowl in '06; but I don't know how they've held up.

The east side besides Grosse Pointe is a sketchy area, so avoid that. Downtown and Midtown probably aren't much more dangerous than most big cities, but that's just because there are a lot more police in those areas. If you are on the street at night anywhere in Detroit you'll want to be aware of your surroundings.

Unless you're into exploring abandoned auto factories there isn't much to do downtown besides casinos and sports.

They have a legit second headliner this year, so I wouldn't be surprised. And they haven't announced a gimmick yet this year (full albums, a certain era, whatever), so maybe they'll scale back on it being so Metallica-centric

"This year we are super psyched to have the Red Hot Chili Peppers join us to close the main Orion stage one night while we hit that stage the other."

Wasn't the extent of the Deftones "shit talking" just Chino saying that "We're the best live band on this tour" when they were on Summer Sanitarium? Or was there something else?

I thought that was kind of the consensus last year too, but then when they announced the side stages w/ S/T, BDM & Sepultura that kind straightened that out. Hopefully there's more.

Yes, it pretty much said that, but in a more disrespectful way. Chino said something like "Metallica has a vast catalogue, but fuckers just stand there and play. We're gonna blow them offstage." He also made a few "old age" comments.
