I've really been jonesing to buy a record player lately. I grew up with one and there are a few in the house I live in now, but I need my own. To all the people with proper setups out there, what are the components I need? Turntable, receiver, speakers? Is that it? When I ask at a store either their eyes glaze over and they look at me like I'm an idiot or go into really specific technical stuff that I can't follow. I know a fair amount about technology, but I've never been a big home audio guy so it's new to me.

I'm looking to get a legit setup, not one of those 90 dollar ones where it's a turntable and speaker unit all in one box that will probably shred my records. Advice is welcome.

If I was going to MDF this year I'd totally buy a Pantera vinyl and give it to you as a gift

Does this also count if ....say... any of my bands were to tour and came through your town?

Pittsburgh's quite the hike for a local band from Seattle, you guys planning on an east coast tour or something? Haha.

Nothing in the works for the East Coast yet
Just have a couple West Coast tours in the process of being booked! (I think one is just a back up plan in case the current one doesn't get set in stone in time).

Cool! I dunno how I missed your earlier post- yup, all you really need is a (good) turntable, receiver and a speaker set and you're good to go! It's only if you want to digitize your records that shit can get really messy on the technical side of things.

What turntable model did you end up getting?

A kinda cheap Audio-Technica one just to get started and see how things work. It's great so far, just went out and dropped a bunch of money on records today, it felt really good to finally wander to the other side of the store that I never needed to before.
