Underoath -- Detroit, MI -- January 19th, 2013
Letlive played 1st. I'd never heard their music before. They had great live energy and some good songs, but for some reason they rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not sure why. I'll need to check them out some more. After all, I did not like Mastodon, Lamb of God, System of a Down, Glassjaw, Dog Fashion Disco, or Mudvayne the 1st time I heard them either, and now I love those bands.
As Cities Burn was next. I saw them play a show w/ Still Remains last summer, and I was uber-dissapointed, but last night they absolutely killed it! They were great!
Mewithoutyou played next. This was my 2nd time seeing them. I thought the Underoath fans would not like them at all, but I was wrong. They put on a solid set.
Sadly this show was the last time Underoath will ever play in Detroit. I understand they want to quit now and do other things rather than dragging it on forever, but it's still sad for me cuz I'm such a big fan. They were one of those fands that literally blew me away the 1st time I saw them circa 2002 at a church in Elgin, IL. I saw them open for Living Sacrifuce, Stavesacre, and Embodyment. They totally stole the show that night. Anyway, they definitely went out w/ a bang last night. The setlist was fantastic, and they leveled the place during "Writing On The Walls" at the end. R.I.P. Underoath. Setlist:
Breathing In a New Mentality
It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door
In Regards To Myself
Emergency Broadcast: The End Is Near
Young and Aspiring
Moving for the Sake of Motion
Who Will Guard the Guardians
Reinventing Your Exit
Everyone Looks So Good From Here
Casting Such a Thin Shadow
A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black & White
Writing On The Walls
5/17 Still Remains
6/27 B Regan
I'm sure Underoath will be back again. Look at how many bands have said they were done for good and came back.
