Cattle Decapitation - Monolith Of Inhumanity

The only problem I can think of for this is so lame. It just doesn't have that certain indefinable quality that The Harvest Floor had for me. Other than that, I really have no qualms if people want to call this Cattle Decapitation's best record. It's really fucking amazing. The band has never been more at the top of their game, from Travis' insane vocals or the crazy proggy deathgrind music. If The Harvest Floor put them on the map, this made them the goddamned capitol city.

Standout tracks: Forced Gender Reassignment, Lifestalker, Your Disposal

Fuck yeah to Cattle Decap and Title Fight. Also, never saw the video for Secret Scoiety before. Definitely a combination of fucked up, hilarious, and unexpected. Although, the best video of the year obv goes to Forced Gender Reassignment. :p

Murder Construct - Results

Completely menacing and totally unrelenting, Results should be a must-listen for every fan of deathgrind. I mean, you have Cattle Decapitation, Phobia, Exhumed, Bad Acid Trip, etc. members here and all their sounds play off each other terrifically. And Travis Ryan's vocal performance here might just be better than on Cattle's new album this year. It's forward-thinking deathgrind and it's amazing.

Standout tracks: Under The Weight Of The Wood, Gold Digger, The Next Life

Equal parts beautiful post-rock, heavy shoegaze and even some old-school black metal, Alcest's latest might be their most complete album yet. Each song is very memorable and has its own merits. I don't think there's another band out there in this same style that does it better than Neieieieiieieieiieghe and company.

Standout tracks: Autre Temps, Les Voyages De L'¬me, Beings Of Light

Interesting. Your list is the only one I can think of with this one on it. I remember when this came out early last year and seemingly everyone was orgasming about it. Figured it would be on many more lists.

It was on plenty of other lists, including mine. But you're right, there was definitely more love for it early in the year.

Revenge - Scum.Collapse.Eradication

This is war metal. I don't think anyone does it better. This is utterly terrifying and unrelenting - everything a war metal album should be. The genre has come a long way from Order From Chaos and Blasphemy, and Revenge's latest might just be one of the best albums its ever seen. If you like black or death metal at all, you need to hear this.

Standout tracks: Us And Them (High Power), Parasite Gallows (In Line), Burden Eradication (Nailed Down)

Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme

This is Dying Fetus' best album in 10 years. The last one was great, but this is jaw-dropping. They've fully embraced their groove-laden brutal death metal side and it's paying off huge for them. "Subjected To A Beating" is so perfect that classes could be given on it. "How To Construct An Amazing Death Metal Song 101." Technical when it needs to be, slamming when it has to be. Fucking awesome.

Standout tracks: Subjected To A Beating, From Womb To Waste, Dissidence
